I have a 1992 Carina E XLI with a broken ignition switch. I can insert the key and turn it once to release the steering lock. The manual tells me to remove the switch barrel I should insert the key, turn it to ACC, depress the lock barrel securing plunger  and withdraw the lock barrel, not being able to turn to ACC I cannot remove the barrel for replacement. Other than attempting to drill out the securing plunger has anyone else any idea how I can remove the barrel?

Many thanks
