I've tried to see if this subject has been discussed already, sorry if it has. My corolla 2.0 estate judders when maintaining a speed, accelerating and when slowing down. Its intermittent but happens a lot. Toyota have just replaced an injector believing this to be the problem.  I picked the car up and within 1 minute of driving I could tell the problem still existed.  I get the impression the injectors are a common problem. Has anyone experienced this and found it to be something different to injectors?

Did they only replace one injector or all 4....all 4 were replaced with my dealer

How many miles and what year is the car.

65,000 miles on a 20plate. I can't find the work sheet they gave me to see if they replaced 1 or 4 injectors. All I know is the cost if it wasn't done under warranty was around £600 . Ive just arranged to take it back in on Friday

I'm sure they know which set of injectors causes the issues but, just to point out, these engines actually have 2 sets, so the total is 8.

£600 sounds like 1 was replaced.... Around £300 each for port injectors plus fitting,  has your warranty run out... This should be done under that although most times the injector/injectors fail they give no codes on diagnostic.

Problem being no code are normally given on diagnostic tool, without a code dealer can't claim on warranty refund.

To help myself and others, can you share how much of your driving is high speed and low speed, do you do high revs very much ("Italian tune-up" style), and what fuel do you usually use? (E5 or E10, supermarket or "big name", premium or normal)

And please let us know what happens on Friday!

Fuel brand or type is not the issue.. Ive seen driver only using Shell v power  and others on asda cheap stuff both have issues.

So I do a mixture of motorway and city driving doing around 25k a year. Motorway driving probably takes up 50%. I generally use  Shell to fuel up and I occasionally use the v power. I stay away from supermarket fuel. The warranty is still running and the last attempt to fix was done under warranty.  I was concerned the 5 years would soon be up but when i asked , the dealership told me it gets extended for a year when I get it serviced with them, I have a service plan with them.

They told me initially ( verbally and a video sent to me) that cylinder 3 had a problem, problem with the injector and something about it not working in sync with the others. I suspected this was a common problem from when I reported it, injectors were mentioned straight away .

It always seems to be number 3, my dealer has been changing all 4 when a fault happens.. Trying to avoid what has happened to you I expect

I'm pretty sure they're confusing 'can't,' with 'too difficult.' Actually confirming what's wrong through real tests takes time, patience and competence.

They won't test em... They rely solely on fault code which they need to claim back any warranty work.. Even if they found a physical fault without a code Toyota are unlikely to pay out.

What a rubbish way to run a warranty program. You'd think they'd prefer to save money (and reputation!) by fixing obviously broken bits ASAP rather than leaving them until they cause more extensive damage!

Good job owners still have consumer rights laws to fall back on.

So it was the injector on cylinder 2 that was the problem,  they have now replaced this one also. I asked if they should change them all as there is obviously an issue. He agreed it would make sense but said as its being done under warranty they will only fund the cost to  replace something that is faulty,  and the others aren't faulty.

It drives much better now and within an hour of driving my average mpg increased.  This had previously been dropping despite it the weather getting warmer. It went down to just under 45mpg.

I do still think there is another one that's just starting to play up, you only notice it slightly at 70mph. But knowing it is covered by warranty I will see if this deteriates like it did last time first. I can see me ending up having them all replaced, even if it's one by one

Does your documentation show a part number for the injector and if it's a Port or Direct injector? I want to see if they've got a newer "revision" that has fixed the issue (if it is the injectors that are the root cause).

You should feel pleased that your dealer and Toyota were willing to do the work, trashman on here is having lots of issues getting his done under warranty!

I asked if my warranty was coming close to its end (5yr) but he said they extend it by a year each time I get it serviced with them, I get the service package. I have found with other car manufacturers also that having the service package often pays back in ways like this.

A bottle of wynns injector cleaner in the tank can help clean injectors, extend life of them and maintain high mpg.
