So I have a 2023 yaris with the latest software and this issue. I enter the car, start it up l, and almost right away my phone connects to it via bluetooth, I can see it in the device list, so far so good. The problem is, Android Auto (I can see on my phone) is available, the car won't connect to it automatically about 3 out of 5 times. There's no error though, if I press on the Android Auto button under my phone's name in the Devices menu, it connects, but for that I have to open settings, devices, select my phone, tap Android Auto, which is a bit annoying, especially since it's inconsistent, so I think it's a connection bug. Is there anything I can do so my phone connects automatically and consistently, not only via bluetooth, but Android Auto as well?

What is your phone and android version

What have you got in AA settings?

To start:

1. Always

2. If used on last Drive

3. Default (set by car)

Try always if its not set like that already.

does your profile load automatically? Do you get a message to say your settings have been loaded when the phone connects to the head unit when powering the car on?

Yes, my device is connected to my profile so as soon as bluetooth connects, my profile is selected as well. Although this popup isn't always that quick to appear, I remember a few times I was on the way for a while when I saw it. Anyways, I just don't understand why AA is not connecting along with bluetooth, but waits for me to press the button.

its a known issue with android auto and Samsung phones in general. It might depend on the version of OneUI you have. You can try a few things like clear out the car from android auto, remove the phone from the car and add it back in.

My wife has a yaris cross 2023 model and hers does the same connects most of the time but in occasion does not so she has to do it manually. I have a Yaris 2024 model and have no issues we both have the same phone the only different I suspect is something in the software on the car.

Thanks, I'll try removing my phone and re-adding it. Might be a Samsung thing as I recently tried a corolla cross with even newer software that was dropping wireless AA connection like every 5 minutes...

I suspect its some strange combo of software and hardware. Like I said in my Yaris 2024 I never have an issue and connects every time and we both have the same phone on same versions of software and patches. The only difference is model of car and year and I suspect the software and hardware in the background.

You could try using the cable instead of wireless as that might give you a more stable connection day to day.

Yes I have to use cable most of the times due to the lack of wireless charging in the car, aa drains my Battery in like 30 minutes, it's just annoying that for short drives where wireless aa would make sense even like that, I have to waste time fiddling in the settings.

I find that Android Auto always takes a little while to come to life in my Yaris or Rav4.

Once it's up and running it's fine.

With the Yaris you need at least Android 9.
