Hi All,

If I buy a used/approved 2020 Yaris which is just outside the 3 year standard warranty from a Toyota Dealership, would it still be covered by the extended 10 year warranty if serviced every year?

Or would you have to buy within the 3 year warranty and then have it serviced for the extended 10 year warranty to be valid?

Just curious as I would like to buy a used but still have the extended 10 year warranty, and if a 2020 car isn't valid then I will avoid.

Thanks

Oh nevermind, seems to only apply to cars from June 2021, so Yaris 2020 is a no go.

A 2020 Yaris will have had a 5 year/100,000 mile new car warranty when new - so will still have a proportion of that left. Aside from that, when the new car warranty is near to expiry, and a service is carried out by a Toyota dealer, the service will generate the Relax extended warranty (10 years or 100,000 miles, whichever occurs first) - see the terms and conditions in the first post of the following topic:

Here are the important statements for used cars from Toyota's T&C's

d. Used vehicles between 2-3 years old with a 3-year Manufacturer Warranty and sold under
Toyota Approved Used programme: The Manufacturer Warranty will continue to apply until
the 3-year period expires. The remaining balance on the Manufacturer Warranty will be
topped up by the Approved Used Warranty to provide a total of 12 months' warranty cover
from sale. Thereafter, customers can qualify on the Additional Warranty until the 10-
year/100,000-mile (whichever comes first) limit is reached.
e. Used vehicles between 4-5 years old with a 5-year Manufacturer Warranty and sold under
Toyota Approved Used programme: The Manufacturer Warranty will continue to apply until
the 5-year period expires. The remaining balance on the Manufacturer Warranty will be
topped up by the Approved Used Warranty to provide a total of 12 months' warranty cover
from sale. Thereafter, customers can qualify on the Additional Warranty until the 10-
year/100,000-mile (whichever comes first) limit is reached.
f. Used vehicles over 3 or 5 years old (Manufacturer Warranty dependent) and sold under Toyota
Approved Used programme: The Manufacturer Warranty no longer applies. The Approved
Used Warranty will apply to provide a total of 12 months' warranty cover upon sale. Upon
expiration of the Approved Used Warranty, customers can qualify on the Additional Warranty
until the 10-year/100,000-mile (whichever comes first) limit is reached.

The 'Relax' warranty is independent of the manufacturer warranty and is essentially a deal-sweetener to encourage people to service their cars at the dealer.

The only thing that matters about the car is if it's a) A Toyota sold in the UK (JDM imports don't qualify alas!) and b) Less than 10 years old.

If you take such a car to a dealer and service it, you get 1 year of extended warranty - It's as simple as that!

My car technically has 2 warranties active on it - The Relax and the Manufacturer, but the Manufacturer trumps the Relax as it's more comprehensive.

Spot on Cyker i recently had mine serviced and the details of the Relax warranty were in the service booking conformation email.
