Software Updates

I had my 2ltr GR Sport Hatch new in October 2023,  occasionally I get a window pop up that informs me a software update has failed - try again later.

I went into the settings menu on the central screen and found this. - see attached photo. DCM could not update.

Everything on the car works fine and it hasn't missed a beat in 9000 miles.

Is this anything to be concerned about.

Further to my post above.

Today I had a window pop up on the central screen saying  'software update error'  error code 131.

Any thoughts please.

Can you connect to your home Wi-Fi to see if it resolves it?

Luckily my car is due its first service at the end of August.

I will give the dealership copies of the error messages and ask them to take a look at it for me.

My 6 week old Corolla Icon has just started displaying the same messages: a dialog saying "Software update error / Please try again later. / Error code:131" and, if I go to Settings / Software update, "DCM / Could not update".

The odd thing is next time I start the car there are no updates shown as being available but, about 3 minutes later, I get the "Software update error" dialog again. It started 10 days ago, disappeared for a week, and now I get the error every time I start the car.

Was the dealership able to resolve this for you? Mine want the car in to "investigate a potential issue"...

Unfortunately due to illness I had to delay my service date until 1st of October. The car was not used for a month.

Will be speaking to the dealership about the update messages when I take the car in.

Sorry to hear that, hope you're OK now.

Mine is booked in on 20/09 so I'll post what the outcome is once the dealership has seen it. Hopefully it's just an update that has to be done by the dealership as RabButler mentioned.

The car has now been seen by the dealership.

From my description of what happened and the photos of the error messages they initially thought the car had an issue they've previously seen on some C-HR's where the car had an invalid license file and so couldn't validate the downloads. However, when they checked the software versions, they found my car has a new version of the head unit software for which no updates have been issued to date.

So this is being raised with Toyota, and in the meanwhile they've stopped the car reporting the errors so it doesn't keep blocking the display with a dialog that has to be dismissed while I'm driving.

The dealership have had a reply from Toyota.

They immediately picked up on the fact that the display shows the data communication icon (two arrows) with the slash through it, just as in Mr Billiards photo above, because I turned off "Activate all data" in Settings | Info & Security. Apparently this blocks the car's ability to download software updates as well as stopping all the data gathering it would otherwise be doing.

So I'll try turning it back on, see if it does the software update, and then turn it off until it starts complaining again. 😬

Thanks for the info, I will check in my settings. Suspect that will be the same setting turned off on my car too.
