Toyota Engine Flush -any good?

I drive a 2013 Auris with a 1.6 non-hybrid petrol engine .The odometer reads 87k miles. In the last two years I have been doing 12k miles per annum and change the oil every 7.5 years. I use Petronas 0w20 without any issue.

I went to Toyota to buy the oil filter and they sold me a bottle of Toyota engine flush.  Should I use it?  Has anyone used it before?  Are there any benefits or issues I should be aware of? Thanks

Why do you only change oil every 7.5 years?

you should be changing it every 9 months based on your 12k a year milage.

Hi,

yes you can use it and no need to worry about anything. Modern engine flushes aren’t any dangerous and there are no risks of causing any problems. The benefits are obvious, it will clean the engine from some soot accumulated through the years. I do use stp engine flush every second oil change .
When I have it the oil comes out slightly darker and thinner.
The new oil afterwords remains cleaner for longer. Just follow the instructions and use it. Engine flush , petrol additives like injectors cleaners or catalytic converters and lambda sensors cleaners does work indeed and can be used safely as part of the regular maintenance.

I'm on the side of the fence that would suggest that there's no need for a "flush" if the oil and filter are changed as recommended or even sooner.

The additives in the oil should keep things clean. If a "flush" is carried out when oil maintenance has been neglected there's the risk of dislodged rubbish blocking or partially blocking an oil passageway. e.g. timing chain oil sprayer.

The general wisdom is it's fine if used regularly, e.g. every major service, or on a relatively young car, but can cause problems on an old car that's never had one before, especially if it has only had low quality oil that's cheaped out on additives, that engine flushes are basically just a concentrate form of
