Hi can anyone advise me please .

I purchased a Milenco + steering wheel lock which is Secured By Design.

However I have noticed the Milenco does not fit snug on my steering wheel and if when the lock is in place and I turned the wheel the lock just loosely falls away from the wheel but obviously still locked!

Is there a different or better solution to the purchase of the Milenco.

Many Thanks 😊

When you say it 'falls off', it sounds like it isn't secured properly.

The only other Secured By Design steering wheel locks are Disklock, or Resolute Armaplate, both available from Amazon, etc:

I had a Stoplock Pro Elite for my RAV4 as it was susceptible to a canbus attack, I'm not sure whether your YC had the same issue as I belive that later Toyota's are not affected. I can use the same lock on my YC as it is the recommended fitment, but don't bother at the moment as it does have a protected canbus 🤞

Why you need to use any of these?
You have insurance, if anything happens to your car you will get paid off or new car replacement.
The only benefit of having steering lock is to the seller and manufacturer.
If a thieves wants your car they will find a way to remove this too.

True, but your insurance premiums will go sky high for the next few years, even with a protected NCB. The main reason for using any additional security feature is to encourage a prospective thief to go on to the next car.

The only positive is if the thief sees the lock he/she may just move on to the next car as they dont want to spend time trying to get the lock off.

fit it in a different position, not sure what you mean it falls away - do you mean it's locked on the wheel and it's just a loose fit

When you look at the price of a quality steering wheel lock, it represents less than 0.4% of the cost of a 2022 Yaris (as per the OP's profile). Smaller percentage for a new Cross.

So if it acts as a visual deterrent to a car thief, and deters a theft, it is cheap compared to the hassle of an insurance claim, the possible increase in premium, the time saved in sourcing a replacement car, etc.

Yes, if they really want the car, it will go, but not without giving the thief a bit of a problem.

Not seen any reports of thefts of Yaris Cross, Just keep the keyless fobs protected with RFID blocking pouches.

I have seen a report of one having the front end stripped off it on Birmingham.

I have got the Stoplock Pro Elite for £50 acts as a deterrent, just remember to put the locking bit over two bits of the wheel so if they want to cut the wheel they have to cut it in two places. End of the day they are only a deterrent if they want it they will have it even by putting it on a towing truck. Each type of lock have their weaknesses and strengths I choose mine coz its easy to fit and easy to store in passenger well.

I just go for the idea if mine has one and the car next to it does not then hopefully they will take that one as its easier 🙂

Agreed with all communication above the thieves mindset and eventually putty them off, however anything’s that you need to carry with you, the stress that you get thinking and protecting your car plus the hassle you have to put on and off in many ways will just kill the overall pleasant experience from owning and driving the particular car if it’s a target. Very similar to the older models with cat stealing.

Yes its a very loose fit

I may contact the steering wheel lock company and ask about the desired fit .

Many Thanks everyone x

I'm also thinking about getting a steering wheel lock, mainly for the deterrent factor.

However most of them won't fit over the airbag, and I don't want one that fits on top of the wheel and dashboard.  I'm also put off by some of the horror-story reviews where the keys have stopped working.

What do other use, and would you recommend it?

Easy. Never actually lock it.

Blow-up doll holding a Nerf assault rifle?

There's also these, but I think they might have been banned everywhere outside the USA...

What do you mean by this? It looks like it only fits one way, am I doing something wrong?

This is exactly how mine is set up (image from Amazon)

well the theory is according to the instructions I got in the box that if you put it over the bit where your volume controls are (dont know what the technical term of the wheel is) they have to cut the wheel in more places to remove the lock. So with that Amazon picture you only have to cut one bit of the wheel off (the bottom bit) to remove the lock. But in my picture you would have to cut two bits of the wheel off (bottom and Top) thus taking a few more moments to remove the lock.

The reason they cut the wheel is because its not hardened metal so much easier to cut then the two hardened metal prongs on the lock.

Either way something is better then nothing and its only a deterrent
