I'm sure this has come up before, but if so I couldn't find it.  I tried to change the speedo on my Corolla to kph before leaving the UK but could not do so.  I did hope it would change automatically on arrival, but not so.  Strangely, when in France and Spain it read the speed limit signs correctly in kph and they turned red if I exceeded the speed limit momentarily, even though the speedo was in mph.  Of course there was always the small digital kph indicator at the bottom of the screen to fall back on.  However on checking the settings menu I found that now in France I could set the main speedo to kph.

For the long ferry crossing, via Bilbao in Spain, I wasn't sure how to switch off the car alarm, but on little more than an inkling I turned off the internal alarm via the ceiling switch and locked the car door with the physical key in the fob.  This combination seems to have worked.

Just pressing the ceiling button before locking the car should be enough to disable the internal sensors until the next time it is started.

It's easily done in the Corolla, on my last VW you had to go through the infotainment menu to find the disable option before you switched off.

Its not really the internal sensors that are of concern on a ferry, it is the motion sensor for the whole car.

Lock the car with the key, alarm shouldn't set.

I don't think many cars have motion sensors anymore - only internal sensors.

They get set off by the movement of air inside when on a ferry - on my VW it was the internal sensor you switched off, there was no motion sensor option available.

Interesting, but confirmation would be good.  My Audi A4 had a button on the door edge to shut off the alarm system.  Couldn't find anything in the Toyota literature other than the internal alarm switch.

It's a bit weird but to change the units you have to go through the MFD and find the bit where you set mpg or l/100km - If it's set to mpg the units will be in Imperial/miles, and if you set it to either of the other two then it'll be in Metric/kilometres.

For me, it doesn't matter whether it's the signs or the speedo that are in kph, I always find myself doing a rough mental conversion to mph. Mph is the only way I can appreciate the reality of how fast I'm actually travelling. 😆
