I want to show mpg since last fill on the Multi information display. It appears from the manual that this is possible - in the fuel economy settings it implies you can select: Overall Average; Trip Average or Tank Average. However in settings I only seem to be able to change between Overall and Trip, Tank doesn’t appear at all? Does anyone know how to do this or is it not possible?

Thanks

The manual states:

Average fuel economy
Displays the average fuel economy since the function was reset or the average fuel economy after starting or refueling.*1, 2, 3

and

*2: Average fuel economy since the function was reset can be reset by pressing and holding (OK).
*3: Average fuel economy after starting is reset each time the hybrid system stops.

My reading of that is that you can get average fuel economy after refueling by pressing (OK) to reset the system each time you refuel ... perhaps?

Are you looking in the MFD or the infotainment?

My Yaris has all 3 but I can only select the tank average from the MFD.

Toyota tend to mess with available functions every time they revise a model though, and it's possible it was removed or the RAV4 never had that ability :confused1:

I have my 2021 RAV set to show average for "This Tank", which is what I think you want. I think the options were, Since Reset, This Tank or This Trip.

Thanks for your replies.

To Phillip42 - I  was hoping, as in other cars I’ve owned, it would be possible to do automatically on filling. I may have to resort to your suggestion. However resetting only seems to reset the trip distance - not the mpg.

To Cyker - I’m looking in the MFD but can only find 2 options not 3 as in manual.

To Strangely Brown - “ Average for this tank” doesn’t appear anywhere I can find in the Multi info display menus - I’m looking in “Fuel economy” is it somewhere else?

My suspicion is the options have been changed without updating the manual - I’ve used my VIN to get the relevant manual.

I’ll probably have to go back to pencil and paper!

I do my tank by tank economy the old fashioned way, so had to go look at my car (set up over three years ago and left well alone since!)

  • On the MID, scroll along to the cog and down to Settings
  • Press and hold OK to get to Detail Settings
  • Scroll down to the 'leaf' and push OK to change
  • Select Fuel Economy and push OK to change

I then see three options: Trip Average, Total Average and Tank Average:

which is, of course what you expected ...

If you are there and that's not what you see, it would seem that it is something that either got moved or lost!

That's the one.

I have it set for Tank Average and it automatically resets every time I fill up without any other interaction.
Long term average I can see elsewhere, and I'm not really bothered about individual trips.
That said the memsahib's AygoX shows the trip average in the display every time she switches off. That would be a nice complement to the other two but hey, I like what I have.

Thanks for all the replies - looks as though the option is no longer available with the software version on my car - I get to the same menu as the one on phil42h’s photo but with only two options.

On the plus side I suspect using actual fuel fill amounts versus distance covered will be more accurate if less convenient!

Thanks again.

The figures I get from the display for each tank are matched within 0.5 mpg every time by the fuel fill calculation. The onboard display is pretty accurate but the calculation only takes a few seconds anyway. The bugger is remembering the reset trip A/B each time. 😞

I see very little variation in mpg to the point where I gave up worrying about it. 54mpg plus or minus 2mpg pretty much with my driving.

It amazes me a petrol 2 tonne SUV tank regular recording 50mpg plus in hybrid mode, it is only a fews ago you would have been laughed at with such claims.

I’ve only had the car for two weeks but have only used 39 litres and 102 kWh of mains electricity to travel 831 miles of very mixed driving -mainly Peak District type hilly roads and about 150 miles motorway/dual carriageway.

This works out at about 96mpg ignoring the electricity input. If I use 50 miles per 14.7kwh (which is around the figure I got driving in EV mode measured by the kWh to recharge) and take the resulting 340 mile electric off the total mileage I end up with a figure of 491 miles for 39 litres or roughly 57 mpg.

Very much back of an envelope calculations but exceeding my expectations.

Are you sure you are in the right menu? They are different for HEV mode and EV mode. The EV mode only has two options Trip or Total.

Yes - I’ve just checked again to make sure I wasn’t misreading the manual or making an idiot mistake but in HV mode I still only get the two options.
