Hi Guys

I am new to the club we have 2 IQ in our family got a problem with one of them like others have said I think I have a loose front strut top mount nut being loose it's noisy, had a look yesterday but it has a solid metal cover over the nut so can not check? How do I remove this cover so I can check the nut tightness ? I don't want to damage anything is there s particular way of removing I have tried to prize off with a screwdriver but it won't budge? Any tips would be much appreciated.

Hello Wayne - welcome to Toyota Owners Club.

It's more than likely a worn top plate/bearing the top plate and strut nut are under constant compression, it will not come loose, and it will take a body part off you if not handled with care and the correct tools

iirc you will need to pull the strut off the car

Suspension noise is usually in the drop links and roll bar bushings, a bad top mount will show up as bad camber/caster on a 4-wheel alignment

I started to get a knock/clunk from the front left when going over uneven ground, speed bumps and especially when taking right turns. Already had new drop links

Found that the 19mm nut at the top of the shock tower had worked loose. Tricky to get to unless you have an offset spanner that can squeeze in the gap. There’s a rubber cover over the nut itself.  I removed the wipers, plastic cowling and metal “shelf”. Clips and 10mm bolts. Some threadlock and tightened the nut. No knocks and clunks, hopefully stays that way

Hi that's what I want to do however I can not get to the nut to tighten up as there seems to be a metal cover physically covering the nut? How do I remove that? Have replaced drop links noise still there its driving me mad. Any thoughts much appreciated

Wipers off, plastic scuttle panel off and then the metal plate will give you access. 10mm nuts holding it on

Thanks mate done what you said unfortunately the strut nuts were both tight so that wasn't the issue going into garage next week.

those front struts can be a right pita to get hold of, as they are only used in the IQ, the rears are easy to find

the fronts they are around £120 each from the main dealers plus the bearing plates while you are in there do the springs
