Phone display

I don’t understand why the phone book on the car display shows all the names related to the phone numbers in your phone as you would expect…

and yet when someone In your phone book rings , the car display just shows the number and not the name … ! 
surely this could be an easy fix !

Could be access control settings on your phone. What kind of phone?

Mine shows who is ringing.

@Nick72 Im using an iPhone 15 pro … what settings should I be looking at …..

its also the same on my Doris’s Yaris which is a touch to go system I think …she’s also got a iPhone 15 pro 

I don’t know if this makes a difference but I’m talking about the bluetooth connection not a  physically plugged in connection (Apple CarPlay)

I you have the setting “Dial Assist” turned on in the Phone settings it can create a miss-match with your contacts and therefore not display correctly in the car.

I’ve just tried with it being on and off but no difference 😩

Before the phone was connected?
try re-synching your contacts with the setting turned off ( before you connect )

So I’ve just done a little experiment…

when I connect with a cable to Apple car play everything displays as it does on the phone ….

when connected via bluetooth the phonebook contacts are listed but when people in my phonebook call it just displays the number 😩… also the call history is just numbers and no names ! …. Very odd and frustrating!!

Mine does that with numbers that start with a 0, but if they start with a +44 then they can match the name.

It does seem to be something to do with the way bluetooth communicates with your phone's phonebook...

That sounds like the answer. My 'phone will match numbers to the name irrespective of whether I store them starting with 0 or +44 in the phone book. I suspect that the car requires the correct format, including country code, in the list of contacts.

Easy enough to check out ...

Yes bingo it worked 😊.. just need to go through my phone book now and change everything to +44

Ah. I'm on Android. Could have helped but I know zero about Apple phones other than you have much greater sharing and privacy controls which default to maximum privacy. So there's probably a setting somewhere.

Or not if you turn off dial assist. My contacts are not +44

Just a quick update on this ..so 90% of the names are showing now but there is still the odd few which are just showing as numbers .. Ive checked the entry in my phone and they are all +44 …..

so im still a bit bamboozled to why the odd few are not showing names 😊
