Why does my hatchback close and door lock button only sometimes work, I have tried pressing and walking slowly away and sometimes it works but other times it just beeps at me?

Posted

yes I'm having the same problem , took it to garage today to ask why the guy didn't have a clue and made me feel an idiot

in the end he's told me to contact Toyota as they have a team to deal with things like this  so will give them a call Monday

today it only worked once .... the rest of the time it gives two bleeps and that it

at first i thought it was down to (check for rear passengers but that function is turned off )

the other thing i noticed is that if you use the tail lift down button then use the fob to lock the doors i get a bleep then have to press lock button again to lock the car

So if you press the closing button works , but if you press lock button it doesn’t?
Beeping is a sign of warning like you have a keys inside the car or the car been in ready mode.
It is very likely the reason. 👍

Hi Tony

yes the close button works but once the tailgate is down and you go to lock it (key fob) it beeps then press it again will lock

The close and lock button works sometimes it bleeps twice and does nothing when it does work it bleeps with a long bleep then closes the hatch then locks the doors

key is not left in car as im the sole driver ive tried getting someone to press button when im standing away from car with keys and it still does the same

i thought maybe the rear seat passenger alert was stopping it that is now turned off and it still happens

I've found that if I press the boot close button and don't walk away from the car right away, it will beep at me instead of closing. I'm guessing that it's making absolutely sure you haven't left the key in the boot area while you were messing about.

I also notice that it is marginally more reluctant to close if I've happened to open the boot using the driver's button.

On my PHEV being close to the boot seems to trigger the sensors that stop the closing process if it thinks you’re going to get caught in the door. If I start it off by pressing the lid button and then walk to one side it will stop. It can be a pain when I’m in a supermarket and want to put the trolley back.

That is because you have taken the key out of range of the rear sensor[s]. Key position is 'key'! (I think)

That said, I can put stuff in the boot, press the close button and get back into the driver's seat while it closes ...

We just got the car and found that if you press the boot close and lock button it only works if you walk out of sensor range with the key. If we stayed near, it beeped and did nothing. Hope this helps

My car is going in tomorrow for this and a couple of other things

I have tried staying near the car have also tried standing away from the car and get someone to press the close and lock

it just has a mind of its own

it may need a software update ?

i dont know will see what they say tomorrow

Right here we go think we have it sorted mines went into day to get other things done etc and the close and lock was one of them

the car came back with it doing the same thing between myself and the mechanic we think we might have a solution

stand behind the car with the key fob on your person press the close and lock button wait 5 secs then walk away the door will close and lock the doors

if you walk back towards the door as its closing it will stop and you have to let it do its thing with after that with the key fob

we recon the 5 secs is for the car to communicate with the key fob and vice versa before you can walk away a safety feature !

try it and see how you go from there .... mines has been working since

I too was frustrated with this, but now it works every time - press the button, two bleeps can be heard, walk away on the third bleep.
