generally, they are 'trim levels' or performance tags

as ben says, it depends on which car..

E.g. a corrola has GL, GLX as trim levels, but the GTi is the sports model

CD and SRi are Vauxhall denominations

RS (as in ford) stands for Rally Sport as the car its stuck on has generally had something to do with.........wait or it.............rallying!

The SR's are generally the budget sporty versions of Toyota's base models.

Starlet SR, Corolla SR and Yaris SR are all spoilered-up and alloy-wheeled versions of the base models...
