Car jumps into gear while unoccupied and reverses off the ramp.

Even the minutest bit of detail would be helpful.

2 post lift left with the engine running, there is enough inertia through the gearbox to make the wheels turn when off the ground

unless it is an MMT with a screwed-up MMT ECU, there are too many fail safes in place and or user input required

Land Rover used to start themselves. If I left mine in gear I would often come back to find it somewhere else.

Only once did it reverse into a car though. 🙂

It's a ghost! The only way to fix this is to get rid of it. I just happen to know someone who can provide exorcism services at reasonable rates!

Not sure . I have it on video which I’m sending to Toyota tomorrow

Can we see it...?

I notice it dragged a machine out with it.

Was this machine plugged in to the vehicle in any way at the time?

Yikes that's pretty freaky

Was the engine on?

It looks like it just shifted into reverse and off it went, which is very odd...!

It looks like it caught the end of a cable plugged into the machine as it crossed the end of the ramp and dragged the whole lot with it; Doesn't look like it was actually plugged into the car...

a main stealer will not be interested - it's an old car, looks like it was being run through an emissions test and the Wi-Fi dongle poss plugged in, cable clipped to No. 1 coil and probe up the exhaust, may have been left in gear with the hand brake off as it rolled way too easily, clicked on the fast idle test and boom out the door it goes

it's the only thing that makes sense - accidents happen there insurance will write the car off tbh

It does seem like they messed up - Handbrake doesn't seem to be on since it moved so freely, and maybe the guy didn't quite push it into P so it was in R?? But then why didn't it start moving in the first place... :g:

I hope their liability insurance is paid up...!

What has the garage told you?

its an automated test these days the computer controls the idle runs its test then runs a fast idle test, fast idle is enough to engage the clutch on an mmt

@Cyker no park position on an aygo MMT but Reverse is at the top (where the Park would be on an auto) - The mechanic was on auto pilot, so was in reverse 😞

Date stamp looks US.
unless this is from March

plus time stamp is an hour out.

as far as evidence is concerned, those factors alone will invalidate the video as evidence for any insurance company.

US never got Aygo & it's currently not allowed to be imported either.

TBH that's fairly normal - Timestamp probably on default setting and on the wrong side of DST, but generally they are not trusted anyway as can be easily faked; If the owner and garage both agree and confirm when the footage occurred that should be enough.

The fact that it has clearly happened and there is now an Aygo with a suicide door makes it pretty incontrovertible!

It maybe didn’t like the servicing costs..

It seems fairly conclusive this was a bit of a whoopsie by the garage rather than a fault in the car...

I'm guessing they aren't admitting liability though... what would be the course of action now...? :confused1:
