I'm generally very pleased with my 'new' 2014 Yaris Excel, but the aircon simply doesn't appear to blow cold ! I'm not sure how long it's supposed to take to kick in (straightaway I'd have thought) so not sure what to do. It has a 6 month warrant with Handler but should I try a re-gas first of all ?

Would appreciate any help or similar experience.

If your chosen the selector switch and heat setting right, then the A/C has an issue. Best to take it to a mechanic or the dealer to sort it out.

Ask for it to be fixed under warranty - if the a/c isn't excluded in the small print.

Thanks - yes, I'm booking it in for a re-gas as first port of call, then if that doesn't work it'll have to be a warranty claim.

If just bought from a dealer, it shouldn't be a warranty claim. Should be covered under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, which presumes it is an existing fault - Consumer Rights Act 2015 - Which?

My wife has a 2014 1.33 and the aircon was good.  Then it stopped working over a few weeks.  I got it pressure tested and they found a leak the condenser (where the drier is fitted).  I fitted a new condenser because I couldn't get the drier out but there turned out to have been a second leak which was a tiny corroded pinhole in a pipe where a plastic clip secures it to the body under the bonnet.

Expensive part at £230 ish I think it was!  It's lovely now though. 🙂

As others have said, get the garage to fix this. You don't have to pay for a re-gas.  Make sure it's used a lot of and when they fix it, before the 6 months consumer protection expired so that if there are further problem the garage need to fix it.

Thanks so far everyone. It's damned annoying to have this after only a few days, but I'll have to steel myself to making sure I get this sorted during this period...don't really like it but I've paid the money and it should be right !

It's a problem buying used. If not an end of lease or PCP (for newer cars) then the previous owner probably had reasons for shifting it and those won't have been passed along.

But better now than in 6 months, such as if you bought it in October and didn't notice till spring.

Definitely best to get the dealer to sort it out - It may just need gas, but this will nail down a start date for the problem if it does turn out to be something more serious.

Yes we'll see how it pans out. I'm annoyed more with myself in a way - haven't swapped cars for 13 years (!) but felt the need for a change and shortlisted the Yaris. I must be rusty cos I broke every rule - listening to the guy blathering on (nice as he was) without carefully checking everything, then too short a test drive, then not making sure all things were working properly before handing cash over. Ah well - we'll see if his after-sales is as good as the sales pitch !
