I have connected the car to my home wifi.  The Satnav map shows a college near us that was demolished to make way for new houses over 10 years ago so it clearly needs an update.  When I tried, it said that there was a problem with the update and that I need to contact my dealer.  Has anyone else experienced this?

Yes. Been to dealer who say it means no update is available (hmm..., don't think they know!!)

This comes up time & time again as a lot of dealers are clueless with the system.

Its the Smart connect system & it uses LIVE mapping via the vehicles DCM.

The only mapping data that a user can up date is the BASE map which the system will only use if there is no signal from the DCM.

AFAIK - HERE provide the mapping data to Toyota for the Smart Connect system.

Try reporting inaccuracies with the mapping information below.

Sorry - what is DCM please?  How do I tell the car to use it?  It really is like having a new computer - thank heaven for this forum!

DCM = Digital Communication Module.

The vehicle uses it to automatically download the data for the sat nav / internet radio / Gracenote music ID plus for the SOS button / eCall system.

It also connects the vehicle to the Toyota mothership so you can communicate with it via the My Toyota smart phone app.

Interesting information - thanks for that.   I get some message to say that it's using DCM when I'm out and about as wfi is unavailable.  (The app is communicating too).  So I have DCM enabled - why is the satnav behaving as if it's 20 years ago?  Do I need to tell it something on the settings screen?

I’ve got the same message on mine as well.
I have given up on the built in sat nav and have gone back to using car play as I find it a lot better. I pay £20 a year for the TomTom app which wipes the floor with Toyota’s effort.
The other day I was doing 50 mph on a dual carriageway that the Toyota nav said had a mile long traffic jam !

Not update related, but rather than starting another thread...

I gave the nav in my Excel a good try this week, and was surprised that when I started a journey that I do regularly, and which I know takes about 1h50 to do, the arrival time on the screen was wrong to the tune of hours!? It very slowly sorted itself out and came to within a few minutes of the correct time as I neared my destination, but that's not much use, is it?

I think I've solved my sat nav arrival time issue- all my time and date stuff was set to full auto; with the time set to manual, and the daylight saving time switched off and the time and time zone set manually, both the car and the arrival time of a known journey on my nav are now reading correctly.

Can the fairly soft 'beep-beep' warning for a speed camera on the sat nav be raised in volume?

Posted

I have a 2018 Yaris VVT-I ICON TECH Hybrid and a 2019 Hilux Invincible X (don't know whether the model makes any difference to this problem) and with both motors, when I approach any permanently sited speed camera, the warning 'bleep' that comes over the radio is deafening. I have taken them to my local Toyota dealer, but they were unable to show me how to stop, or at least, lessen the volume. Any advice would be greatly received.

The opposite to my question, LOL

Yes, sorry to hijack your post, but I hoped someone who could answer your question could also answer mine :))
