I bought a petrol Yaris Cross Urban. It is quirky and fun but not worth the money. Suede door arm rests, Apple play needs phone plugged in, my fuel tank gauge says empty but only takes 32 to refill on a 42 lt tank. Dont damage your side mirror as they are almost A$3000 each to replace. No drivers lumbar support making long trips painful. No auto door lock. The GPS is just a pain to use, I use Waze instead. It has many great features but $39,000 for this. Its a joke. My wife’s base model Yaris was $17,990 drive away and eats this for value. Last Toyota for me thanks.

Are you in Australia? Your Cross may be different from the UK one. Frosty or flash22 showed some stuff recently on different versions around the world.

Same model as Europe, though Japanese assembled. Some of the greivances (auto door lock, wired Apple car play) should have been obvious on checking the specs before purchase. Your owners manual will cover the fuel tank reserve . Etc.

This is why checking specs, etc before purchase is advisable.

Does it have the 9" nav screen?

The YC isn't perfect (ours has Touch2 Nav but we use our preferred GPS devices), but overall it's a solid car, gives outstanding MPG, and on a 400 mile (one-way) trip was very comfortable (I don't give thanks for lumbar support - it's usually too high up my back).

Auto door lock isn't a big deal - start the car then hit the button to lock the doors manually. I've been doing this for decades already.

Sorry you think it is a waste of money. It's a solid car, and should be very reliable. I would sell my soul for a Japanese built YC.

There's no getting around that everything is over-priced, but alas this is the new normal.

I just wish my wages went up at the same rate everything else is!

some one is pulling your chain with the price of the mirror even if does have the 360 camera

wireless ACP is available on the upgraded radio, if not add your own wireless adapter

you are paying the premium for the cross over a Yaris and also being a hybrid - a base Yaris 2024 Ascent is $32k dollarydoos rising to £38k depending on your region and taxes

just looking at the conversion rate 40k AUD is about £22K UKP well under the retail price of a UK car

As others have said the UK spec is different, but agree that the door armrests are disappointing. My version has all the bells and whistles, but it is still based on a relatively cheap car so the materials aren't the best and are chosen for longevity rather than luxury but I still don't regret my choice.

Well I think my cross is brilliant, sure it’s not perfect no car is, cost, well everything else has gone up so cars are no different, so glad I got rid of my puma, I still occasionally check the forum, lots on there now having gearbox (manual) problems, I love the economy and I have finally beaten my record mpg of 70.2 to 73.5 .

Did you not notice lack of support on your test drive?

apple play needs phone plugged in

Did you not bother to do any research before buying the car all reviews  tell you its wired only?

But that's not the case with this -

To be fair that's not something you tend to notice unless driven much more than a test drive would allow.

I didn't really notice until I'd had mine for a couple of weeks that my lower back was getting sore, and it wasn't until I did a long (2 hr) journey I started to really feel it...

Wireless AA/ACP is overrated though - Unless the car also has wireless charging or your phone has an unusually strong Battery, or you're only driving briefly, you find it ends up draining loads of power from the phone and you end up having to plug it in anyway.

On long journeys obviously you would plug in to keep the phone charged for shorter journeys the convenience of not taking the phone out of your pocket for me is worth the price of the dongle and is the way i intend to use it.

Unless your phone is very old the Battery will  be a decent enough size so you only have to plug in on very long journeys.

Auto door locking can also be achieved with certain aftermarket security systems.

Auto door locking is easily fixed with this attachment.

That's what I bought - works a treat, it's been in my car for 10 months and never glitched.  Dearer than an Aliexpress may or may-not work OBD but it does do what it says on the tin!  Instructions are in Japanese but I used my phone camera and Google translate and it was simple.😎

I did by mistake use Chinese to English which gave some very strange options 🤣

I really don't like the 2024 Yaris Cross Hybrid we have with this Crash Detection nonscence. I passed my test in December 1980, what makes Toyota think they know better than me when to brake. I prefer either to stick to my 2012 Focus or the other 2018 Yaris Hybrid we have. We won't be having another car with all this alledged control/safety features so probably means I will stick to our older ones until the car tax is out of our budget.

It's not Toyota, it's the law mandating all this stuff - All new cars get it and it's getting worse the newer the car is.

I would have blamed it on the EU as it's part of their unrealistic zero road deaths goal, but we're not in the EU anymore but are still following their rules in lockstep for some reason, and now we cant veto any new ones.

A lot if people voted to leave the EU to control our borders and the Boris bus but nothing has changed except companies now loaded with extra admin to export.

Actually, the UK didn't follow the recent speed limit beep fiasco, the manufacturers did - there is NO legal requirement to have speed limit beep etc etc on UK registered cars. But manufacturers want one software base across all their European operations (we are in Europe, but not the EU)

That's what I'm saying - The manufacturers aren't going to build a bespoke system just for us, so whatever the EU decides we end up getting too, and now we have no influence in the matter as we don't have a say in EU legislation any more.

I take it you were at gunpoint when you handed the money over?  Most people check what a car has got before they get into this bitter situation.  It sounds like you don’t have a higher spec model so the mirror would be fairly low spec.  What you pay for replacement depends on who paints and fits it.   There are cheaper ways to avoid being robbed.  You can’t blame Toyota for that too.
