Still trying to understand what my 2022 Corolla dashboard is 'telling me' here.

Here is a snapshot of my dashboard. I have inserted the yellow square.

What is this telling me ? on the outer edge of the green section the white section expands & contracts  thru 0 - 75 - 150.

I can see no correlation between this display and my use of the accelerator pedal ?

I assume this must be related to Hybrid Battery input or maybe economical motoring but hopefully someone can enlighten me ?

Thank you.

It is showing your average mpg (67) for 292 miles

Not sure that's correct. Total average 67 m.p.g. is for the current trip and, based on recent fuel consumption, your remaining range is 292 miles (until you reach "Reserve tank", not until you run dry).

You also get the green bar which reflects the average for the trip (67) and a faster moving bar to the outside of the green arc showing the immediate fuel consumption (this does react to your use of the accelerator pedal and goes up to 150 if running on Battery only).

Reserve tank gives you around another 80 miles range!

I am just querying the info in my yellow outlined box Paul. The other info is self-explanatory.

I take that to simply be a graphical representation of 67.

It’s showing you average mpg and depending on your setting it could be average mpg for current trip, for current “tank” or over all average mpg.

I can see that if the green segment =  67 mpg but the white segment ( you can only see a small part on this picture, this fluctuates between ( 0 ) where it is now and anywhere up to top of scale =  150?

That would be the scale 0-150

Oh I see. If the green is the average since the last manual reset, could the white part be an average for the current trip i.e. since you last started the car? That would also mean it doesn't immediately respond to modulation of the accelerator.

I've always took it that the white bar is a graphical representation of your current ice mpg. The green bit similar but the effort from the electric motor instead of mpg. When in EV mode the white bar drops to zero.

The white bar is the current fuel consumption and varies quickly as you would expect when you accelerate, decelerate, go up hill, go down hill etc.

The whole idea is to help you improve fuel economy. While you keep the white bar above the green bar your average is improving. When the white bar is below the green bar your average is dropping.

Ok, thanks for that. Seems counterintuitive ?  I would expect the bar to rise as fuel use increases 🥴 However, now I know what to expect I can probably confirm  your explanation next time I drive the car.

Thanks everyone for helping with what was a trivial little question.

I suspect that if you were to switch the units over to litre/100km, it may work the other way around as that is a measure of consumption rather than distance achieved.

I've just been out in the car and have realised what a complete load of codswallop I wrote here!

This only shows average mpg out of maximum 150mpg, In your case 67 out of 150. Perhaps to encourage the driver to drive efficiently and achieve highway score out of 150.

Yup - the green is the average since last reset, the white in “now” ie what your average is at this moment.

If the white is above the green you are doing better than your average, if it’s below then you are doing worse.
