As others have said, the Battery were flat during your visit so that is a big red flag. Demand a new Battery to be fitted, you have consumer protection for 6 months, cite vehicle not fit for purpose. There are people with the mk4 gone away for 10 days or more and come back car starts fine. Cant go worrying about a flat Battery after 4 days of not using if prior using regularly.

TBH, most people got fed of trying to get a replacement one from their dealer (Which would be the same model of battery, albeit hopefully a newer non-dodgy one) and switched to the higher capacity Yuasa YBX5202 instead. So far a few people who got dealer replacement batteries had the problem reoccur, but I don't think anyone who swapped to the Yuasa has come back.

@zephorianvephorian777: The issue hasn't been resolved by using an alternative battery (Yuasa) replaced by halfords that's cost £118 (inc fitting) on a 2023 Yaris Hybrid. After 7 weeks of trouble free motoring, the flat battery problem resurfaced. It's inconvenient having to follow the process of "charging" the battery for at least 60 minutes every other week via ready mode. It's not cost effective and definitely not environmentally friendly, and it's also a waste of time that shouldn't be required for a vehicle that costs in excess of £20,000 in 2024.

It all boils down to what "7 weeks of trouble free motoring" means. 2 mile grocery shop trip every weekend will deplete anything, even 120Ah Battery from the lorry. It will just take longer.

Or 7 weeks of car seating at the long stay airport parking.

I would say in that case, if they aren't even using the car 60 minutes a week, nothing will help them. Even Shmee150 has to trickle-charge all his cars because he can't drive them all enough.

The car HAS to be used at least semi-regularly for any energy to go back into the Battery.

I just never understood why anyone would buy such an expensive car if they're never going to use it. If it was a fancy car then I get it from a status symbol point of view, but it's a Yaris!

It's destiny is to be The Daily, the Workhorse - If they drive so little, there are much nicer cars for much less money out there. You can buy a half-decent used Aston Martin for the price of a new Yaris hybrid! Yeah the mpg won't even be half what the Yaris gets but for such low mileage who cares?

Well said, i also never understand why people who are about to sink £25,000 plus into a car dont google "Common problems with Yaris hybrids" seventh link on first page -

I've decided to maybe buy a Toyota Yaris hybrid, mainly due to reliability but seems some have issues such as dead Battery if not driven for ...

Don't get me wrong, the fact that some people have had their 12v dying after less than a week is inexcusable - IMHO you should be able to leave a car for at least 2 weeks, maybe a month, without having any worries or anxiety about the 12v Battery dropping so low you can't turn the car on, especially since Toyota have previous form for this problem 10ish years ago, so they should have known better and mitigated it from the start - but at the same time you can't lump all the blame on the car if it's hardly ever used...!

I still prefer to be bothered by something DIY-fixable rather than get the timing belt which falls apart in the oil and clog everything with the debris 😉

It still amazes me that wet belts are a thing, and they still try and justify its pointless existence! Now they blame customers for not using the right oil for premature failure... :rolleyes1:

Yeah, I just part-exed a Fiesta at 31,000 miles because great as it was, I didn't trust it any more; the auctioneer who passed it on today sold it with a 'Buyer Beware- EcoBoost Engine' notice on it!

So, yeah- could be worse.

Yes no rubber belts like oil but chains do.

That's one thing I do like about this Yaris - No belts! No clutches! :yahoo:

All they need to do now is get rid of the timing chain and replace it with timing gears and there will be nothing in the engine that relies on friction or tension in some way!

I don’t know why there are still people who are buying other makes that are well known to be a mechanical disasters. .! .?
Lack of knowledge, misinformation, or pure ignorance.
Their money, their cars, their problems 😅👌
