Hi all

Our Yaris, 1.33 2015 Icon dosent have satnav.

I've bought a later head unit from a hybrid Yaris complete with satnav module and antenna.

I know when these start up they display the hybrid logo for a few seconds which would look odd in a non hybrid car. So, my plan is to remove the nav module and install it in my car under onto the existing head unit. Everything looks identical.

Before I do this, does anyone forsee any gotchas with this?

Also am I right in assuming there is no security codes for the head unit?

Thanks in advance.

no code for the radio, I'm not sure but a hybrid radio may default to a standard once it picks up the can bus (may take a few restarts) - the later silver button radios are more stable than the earlier touch2's

apart from that it is plug and play, dont forget to plug the USB cable into the sat nav module instead of the DA

Thanks flash22, you're a knowledgeable bloak!

So from what you say I should just swap the head and nav unit from the hybrid first? I'm only assuming that will not will work as the seller I bought it from on eBay took pictures with it on a bench. So I'm assuming the hybrid logo is in the firmware on the head unit.

Might try just do satisfy my curiosity.

Thanks for confirming the code situation.

The hybrid and non-hybrid use the same firmware - the touch2 with get the car parameters from can bus - It has been a while but it will only do the hybrid change 1 way but can't remember, the standard is orange or red, hybrid uses the blue colour scheme

Thanks flash that makes sense, so although the head unit has a FW with all Hybrid functions it will disable all these in a non hybrid. I think I read somewhere the menus stay blue but that's fine.

One more question, turns out the hybrid one I bought is also a DAB unit, bonus!

Do you think my 2015 icon will have the Dab antenna plug already in the dashboard? If not I think I'll order a aftermarket windscreen / dash antenna before I do this job....

Hi @flash22

Finally got around to this and installed the radio/satnav. I added a DAB antenna to the winscreen as high up as I could and get 98% signal.  Satnav is now also working.

The only issue I have is around the Hybrid logo at start up, I can't seem to get rid of this, have tried several reboot and restarts, is there something else I need to do ?

Thanks

I guess the wife wont care, I could swap the radio for the original one but then no DAB. Will live with it I think. Maybe I'll keep the original head unit and swpa it back when it comes time to sell it on.  At least this confirms the JPG for unit must exist in flash somewhere seperate from the firmware?

It's based on the QNX RTOS, memory wise it uses a Panasonic 4gb 224 bga e-SD and a 1gb flash chip

it's ultra secure, you can check the config from the second hidden menu under car parameters

That thread did pique my interest as I also have an interest in electronics repair and general tinkering with gadgets. I do have a couple of programmers and jtag interfaces, however from what you've said above I think I'll leave it alone.

Will keep an eye out for one of the later (silver button) units, seems they all have dab from the limited research I've done.
