I thought there was a thread here about disabling keyless entry on the Cross but i have searched and cannot find it is this possible using the methods below?

The setting is in the infotainment settings somewhere, as in the top video, but if you have a newer YC the infotainment system was completely changed and the interface is completely different.

The 2nd video is just how to disable the radio on the keyfob, but not the keyless system in the car.

The first (GR Yaris) instructions are the ones I would use (slightly different on a 10.5" screen, but basically the same)

Thought I had read that you hold lock & unlock button down simultaneously. Any key press reenables?

Close! It's hold lock and press unlock x2 and the fob light will blink 4 times. Basically the 2nd video. However, that ONLY disables the radio transmitter in that key; If e.g. your SO had the 2nd smartfob it would still open and drive for them keylessly.

Yep, I realise it applies to each key individually but it would stop key sniffers and mean that you don't have to put the keys in Faraday box every time (as long as you remember to do the key press shuffle). Oh, these first world problems!

Worst case scenario If the settings are not in the Cross menu -

My second key will not be used as i am the only driver so if i  wrap the second key in tinfoil or a Faraday box or bag and leave it in the house and do the button trick on the key i am using it'll stop key sniffers

Assuming it's the same as the standard Yaris then it's in the infotainment menu. You need to make sure that the car is in Ready mode though or the menu option won't be there.

Select the Cog icon > Vehicle Customise > Door Control > Entry & Start

Once you've chosen that option then you'll have to hold the key against the Start button every time you want to get it into Ready mode.

It's good for additional security but some may not like the extra step. You can't separate the keyless doors from the engine start feature, so it's all or nothing

Why not just do the button trick on both keys?

(I do this even when the car is in the garage if it's not likely to be used for a few days as I would think it wil save the Battery life a bit.)

Vehicle Customise

IIRC Carista is the only way to disable / enable keyless without the need to visit dealership

Ugh it does seem like they crippled a lot of functionality in the new system

Keyless entry is so useful function and together with push start button a true Toyota hybrids signature.
Why would you like to disable it ?  It saves you nothing but reduces practicality. 👍

Agree, but depending where you live and the number of keyless car thefts it may be an owners choice to go sniffer-proof. Myself, my keyless MX5 keys live in a Faraday box (note Faraday pouches are basically useless and very unreliable)

I have spare key in Pepsi can, works as Faraday box. But I don’t think anyone would be interested in my crusty old Toyota 😅👌

My view on keyless entry is it is a pointless security risk, some people like it some dont i fall into the latter category  i know i can use a Faraday bag or box but i would rather just turn it off and use the fob like i do in my current car.

If the option is not there in the new Toyota settings as Hind mentioned above is it still possible to do the fob button trick or can the dealer turn it off permanently?

I have a 72 plate Yaris Cross and it is very easy to disable the key less entry in "settings". I prefer to use the key fob buttons to lock/unlock the car.

Keyless thefts round here in West London are rife but also in rural Cheshire too. My sisters brand new Land Rover Discovery didn't last 5 minutes on their drive and then the arguments on the difference in value against what they paid started with the insurance company.

Yes you could do the fob button trick also on a new MY24 Yaris.

Moreover your fob should have the auto standby feature through motion sensor.   If you don't move the fob for some seconds ( e.g. you put it on a table or left in the pocket of an hanged jacket ) it will automatically lock as you've done the button trick.

About second key, you can leave in your drawer after having execute the button trick.  If your're still unsure you can remove the coin Battery from the fob leaving it close to the fob.   So, when you'll need to use the spare fob you've just to remember to reinsert the Battery

I disable it as I just like to pull the door handle to make sure its locked. Even though its little ears fold in and the lights flash I still have this urge to have to pull the handle to make sure it is really locked and I cant do that with the keyless entry enabled.

I think you can if you pull the handle within 3s of locking the door

That’s right,

pull the door handle on the rear door - this is what I do and if you prefer the 3 seconds timing you can increase to 30sec or a minute. 👍 The ability to just place hand on handle and unlock the car then just pull this handle and open it is so practically and natural, since we have push start button and the key fob will be in the pocket or handbag.

I did not know about this 3 second rule and just read it in the manual so thanks both for pointing that out. So not only can I now eat toast if it falls on the floor I can check the doors locked as they all fall under the 3 seconds rule 🙂

You can use Carista to introduce a longer delay

so you can grab that toast AND check the door handle at the same time (as long as the toast lands butter side up, of course)

on the tailgate, there are 2 buttons one is for the usual open, and the smaller button will unlock the boot only
