2001 factory car alarm installation diagram available?

When I unlock or lock my RAV4 (2001, 2-door, automatic) using my fob, 12 short beeps sound from near the Battery. Occasionally, the emergency flights will flash for a few minutes as well.

The alarm is the factory model.

A mechanic said that the beep is being caused by the alarm’s backup Battery (located under the car’s battery) being flat, or because a wire running from the alarm’s button under the bonnet is broken (looks like the wire split due to being old).

I can fix the wire by splicing it. But I’ve been unable to find any diagrams or photos showing how the alarm is fitted, so I swap out its backup Battery. (My Haynes is no help here.)

Can anyone provide a diagram or photos, or point me to where I can find them?

Thanks

Doesn't sound like a factory alarm setup

The wiring information for a factory fitted system will likely be on the Toyota TechDoc site.

No idea if you will be able to view it even with paid access as Toyota seem to have ( finally ) locked down security system information 👍

@forkingabout Thanks. I checked the main and .eu TechDoc sites. You do need a user account to get into the main site, and the .eu site didn’t have any relevant information.

I suppose I’ll just have to dig about in the engine then. Or find a local car thief and ask them where the alarm would be. 😂

...alarm’s backup battery...

If it's a dealer fitted Toyota alarm, the backup Battery will be inside the siren unit.

Update: I ended up removing the alarm’s siren. The problems were caused by the siren being damaged by water, mold inside it, and its Battery leaking.

Removing the siren hasn’t affected the immobiliser or the alarm’s other functions. And my insurer said that if I have to make a claim for theft, not having a siren won’t matter.

Thanks for the advice on this.
