Something that I noticed recently,

I almost don’t see new 24 reg Corolla anywhere in London’s and around south east  except few highway maintenance cars and some police patrol cars. What happens to Corolla sales in uk?
The most popular new Toyota I see are Yaris cross, Yaris and Aygo and the new chr are getting popular too.
This is what I see on the roads and no any scientific statistics. I don’t see many new Corolla as ph cars too, perhaps taxi trade had moved into evs . Bz4x noted as oh cars on under.
Customer preferences switch, economic instability, new car sales sky high prices or a combination of all above, just make me wonder.
Any comments are welcome.
Thanks

I've seen loads of Corollas (not specifically 24's) about in Surrey/Hampshire/Sussex, they seem to be increasing too as the police use corolla estates and I've seen a few of the corolla commercial vans too. As well as all the taxis using the corolla estates.

It's probably just likely people haven't come to the end of their Corolla leases yet for the new number plates. Maybe they have 3/4 year ones so they will be coming due in the future depending on when they bought their last car.

In general non SUVs seem to be dying out though, with the Focus and Fiesta being dropped. The Astra and Golf are still going.

I think in future people will move towards EV/SUV. Certainly some of the big taxi firms have already, but the smaller ones are still using Corollas.

I have to say most of the Yaris hybrids I've seen have been driving school ones! (I often wonder how nervous learners cope with the ADAS !!!!BRAKE!!!!! KRKRKRZKRZRRRK warnings  )

Yaris and Aygo Crosses definitely the more popular among private vehicles, although there is one white Yaris with all the optional trims which looks real nice, and I've seen a few different GR4s cruising around (Always the opposite direction to me alas!!)

Current delivery if you factory order a Corolla today (& there are very, very few new cars in stock nationally) is November. The £2650 Toyota contribution to PCPs is having an effect.

Imo there is a trend to both downsize & go to Crossover/SUV.

With a new Corolla being £30k+ & insurance not being that cheap (guess what I have been looking at this morning?) I suspect not too many young private buyers.

I've seen surprisingly few 'facelift' (MY23 and onward) Corollas generally and have only seen two '24-plate cars (both TS) so far. In my immediate neighbourhood (let's say 1 km radius from my house) I'm only aware of 2 current-generation Corollas other than mine - a '23-plate hatchback and a '22-plate TS.

Outside the taxi driver community it seems to me that the Corolla isn't as popular as Toyota's other offerings - Aygo, Yaris, Yaris Cross and CH-R. Thinking about it, I've actually seen more '24-plate Aygo Crosses than '24-plate Corollas. This despite the Corolla being one of the best C-segment cars currently on the market, with excellent reviews from the motoring press. The popularity of the C-segment car is clearly declining - many seeking a family car prefer SUVs and Crossovers nowadays. I also wonder whether the post-pandemic price increases and removal of 0% finance deals has had an effect on Corolla sales in the last couple of years. Having said all that, the long lead times for Burnaston-built Corollas suggest sales remain strong. Funny that I'm not seeing much evidence of that (in the UK anyhow) though.

Corolla touring sports in Design trim is the entry level company car for my work, we have loads of them on the company car fleet.

I haven't seen any 24 plate ones on the company fleet but I don't get visited by management now 😅

There is a 24 plate Corolla touring sports that appears in the work car park where I'm based but it's nothing to do with us.

I saw a new one today. To me, it's the best vehicle Toyota offer on the UK market that I consider to be a proper car (I'm not counting the sports models which aren't their own designs anyway), except for possibly the Prius, which is dear for what you get since it went PHEV. I might have considered an upgrade to a Camry, but modern ones are a bit big and that ship has now sailed.  Purely for personal taste reasons, I can't imagine ever contemplating an SUV or crossover for as long as I breathe, and preferably not afterwards either.😂

I considered a new Excel when my PCP came to an end last year, but they'd jacked the price up so much and I couldn't justify the extra outlay for a bit more oomph in the hybrid system, an upgraded screen, and some snazzy headlights.

Here in Scotland facelift Corollas are rare, only ones I've really seen are taxis. However, it feels like every second car I see is a Yaris cross or a CHR (the new model)! The new lexus lbx are also getting popular.

Probably indicative of the general direction the market is going and the herd mentality we have here means everyone is going for SUV/crossovers.

Wouldn't be surprised if the current Corolla touring is the last estate car Toyota will make.

Yes everything has to be an SUV still. Maybe they'll bring the Corolla Cross to GB after all...

I hope the SUV will go out of fashion one day!??

A lot of newer 'SUVs' aren't much bigger than a normal hatchback now. They've been getting smaller, so although called SUV they aren't really.

I saw a new Volvo EX30 SUV last week, checked and it's only about 3cm taller than a 2010 Auris.

Lol, my Prius is longer and wider than a Vauxhall Zafira

Ah, the MPV. Whatever happened to them? Family hatchbacks and estates appear to be going the same way.

Compact suv do serve a purpose with a higher seat position, getting in/out for some people are an issue with normal cars, as well they have a bigger boot. While a estate isn't what a lot of people want due to length/look.

I think this is why I have an unreasonable hatred of SUVs - The Mk1 and Mk2 Yaris did ALL of that - The Mk2 especially you could just step into, so effortlessly, and at the highest seat position you could see over most cars. If you slid the rear seats forward it had more boot space than most SUVs, and if you slid them back it had more leg room than most SUVs!

And it was what, 3.7m long!? Why does nobody make vehicles like that any more!?

It was a tour de force of a space efficient vehicle, whereas now we're heading very much the opposite, with cars being significantly bigger with much worse space usage.

Getting in my Mk4 is like trying to get into a sports car it's so awkward by comparison! And those rear doors... they really should have tested them with grown adults! They're so bad...!

Hah, says the man from the company that just killed off the Fiesta, one of the best small cars ever made!! And seemingly replaced it with the Crap-E, I mean Capri EV, another giant land boat that is nearly the complete antithesis to a Capri!

Have they ever even sold a 'small' vehicle in the USA??

Personal preference, an SUV isn't an issue as an SUV.

Exactly the reason I have a C-HR & the missus has a Yaris Cross.

We both have elderly parents to transport about that find the higher seating position aids with entry & exit of the vehicle.

Yes, the higher ride height is definitely one benefit of compact SUVs/Crossovers. I rate my Corolla very highly but its one significant negative is the low height of the seats and fairly cramped, tight access (small aperture) rear. Not a problem for me, my wife and teenage daughter but certainly a problem when I’m transporting my elderly parents, who really struggle to get in and out of my Corolla. I’ve taken to using my Fiat 500 to transport them instead, as its seats are higher and the door aperture wider. Incidentally, my 16-year-old Fiat 500 just passed its 13th straight MOT yesterday - it’s never let me down and shown Toyota-like levels of dependability since purchase in 2008! So much for ‘Fix It Again Tomorrow’ 😄

I've around a year left and the salesman has been in touch recently to see if I want to change, but damn what has happened?

3 years ago I got this car and for something similar today, they still want a grand down with another £40 plus per month and I am still giving them a low mileage beauty of a car.

His first offer was for a 21-plate Corolla but with double the mileage to mine £1k upfront plus my car, and more each month.  Mind-boggling.

What did you do, have you taken out a loan or gone to a different brand?

Honestly, the car for me is delicious, fun and does what I want; however, it's a nightmare for anything more than a small run to the shops, as there's no practicality and the space in the rear isn't the best.

I also did a CH-r mk1 test drive, which was dull as dishwater.

I paid the balloon off and own it outright now. But they certainly lost the sale of a new vehicle to me and I suspect i'll now drive the current one until circumstances change and I need something different.

I'm around 6 months left on my PCP & Toyota have nothing in the current product line up I'd want to drive let alone buy - my CBP will be paid off & I'm keeping my C-HR.
