Having ploughed through all the online manuals trying to understand my new car, I have found that I can have the remote set to open and close ALL the windows.

This has to be done by the dealer, so has anyone had it enabled? Is there a charge? Does it take long?

TIA

yes it's a dealer only, 5 min with techstream, most will do it FOC, iirc you can also do it with Carista

Had them activate it on mine during the first service, no charge. Shouldn't take long if the mechanic is competent, which isn't a given

Or buy Carista software that allows you to tweak other settings.  Works with almost any OBD device or their own.

Carista 4th Gen Toyota Yaris etc

I haven't had Carita plugged in to the missus 24 MY Yaris Cross yet - but I've been asked to activate the remote window closing from the fob.

Make sure you cancel the app subscription before one month goes by and adjust anything for free in the months trial period.

Had mine done, took 10 minutes whilst I waited, didn't charge me.

I did expect when activating this option a long press and let go would complete the open or closed, but you have to keep the button pressed.

Even better, would be if the windows are open and you lock the car, all open windows also close.

Not sure if this can be done !!

They should have set closing as well, lock and long press on the lock button to close the windows - exact reverse of the open/unlock.

Just to be clear.  If my windows are open and I lock the car either by touching the door handle or by using the lock button on the remote, it will close all open windows ?

You have to keep the lock fob button pressed (same as unlock/open window, keep unlock button pressed)

Ok, that's what mine currently does.  I was hoping that once this option was activated by the dealer, I could just lock the car and windows will all close, but it seems a long press is required.

I just wanted to be sure that I wasn't missing anything .

Cheers

Yes, it’s a shame the windows don’t auto close when you lock the car. This is why I want to activate the option on the fob - we are dog sitting atm and it appears the mutt pressed the window button when in the back and opened the passenger rear window an inch. We haven’t used the car for several days and didn’t know until I checked the app!

MyT app would have sent you a  note saying a window was open.....

Yes, you should have got a notification when a window is left open OR you get out of the car and walk away and forget to lock the car.

*Would have been VERY nice if ALL open windows closed fully on locking the car.  I had a aftermarket alarm fitted to a car about 20 years ago and even that closed all the windows when locking !!

🤔 but then someone else would want something different - can’t please all the people all the time 🤣. It says I can also auto close the roof but my panoramic doesn’t even open! Where the heck it would fold to, I just don’t know.

It would if I had known about the push notifications (or even what they were).

I have now found how to set them 👍

The reason why the fob button has to be kept pressed to open / close the electric windows is a safety feature.

It's so the vehicle manufacturers cannot be held liable if someone / something gets damaged by a moving window.

You as the person pressing the button will be liable.

That seems plausible, although the car itself has 1-touch buttons to fully open/close all the windows inside the car! :g:

Interestingly my brother's BMW behaves the same way, i.e. have to hold it to open/close.

I suppose one benefit is you can open the windows a certain amount and not all the way if you want. His one also opens the sun roof! (I guess ours would too, if we had sun/moon/star/sky/space/universe roofs)

But technically you have to be inside the vehicle to press those buttons plus the driver switch panel has the window isolation function to isolate the other windows buttons if required.

I asked the dealer to do this when it went in for its first service last month, I even put it in writing when I filled out the online booking form but was told this needs to be done separately, tbh, I’m not really bothered about it as I had it on my last two cars and rarely needed to use it, because I can set the heating/aircon remotely via the app, I can’t really see a use for it..

Not picked mine up yet, but I presume the default is hold the door open on the fob all windows open, hold the door closed on the fob all windows closed. This has been on all my cars over the last 20 years, I’ll check it on collection or should I give them the heads up I expect this to be enabled?

You have to get it turned on at the dealers Harry.

Totally correct, it is a safety case. You need to be inside the vehicle to operate the window buttons, so are in control of the situation. Whereas the remote closing can be done when you are not near, or even in sight of the vehicle (inside the house or garage for example) - so you are not in direct control of the situation. Yes, there is an auto back-off feature, however considerable pressure needs to be applied before they back-off.

@HarryW2024 give them a few days warning as "sales" and "service" won't be liaising 🤣 so potentially talk to them both.

If all else fails, Carista app (works with most obd dongle or their own)
