But technically you have to be inside the vehicle to press those buttons plus the driver switch panel has the window isolation function to isolate the other windows buttons if required.

Moreover there's a security system that lowers the windows if it hits something ( usually an arm or hand ).

In any case the driver is present and can quickly react.

You could leave a dog in car leaving just a bit opened the windows ( so the dog can breathe fresh air but non jump out of the car ). If windows close automatically without an explicit long press, ahhhh poor dog 😞

RANT WARNING!

Whoever said tell both sales AND technical before you go to get this enabled was spot on😡

I rang my nominated contact at the dealership this morning to get the window one push on the remote enabled. I had previously emailed him, which he failed to reply to so explained in words of one syllable what I required to have done. We arranged for me to visit at 2 pm today.

i got there on time despite every road in our area currently being dug up, and on the way a notification came up on the multimedia display to tell me “ notifications had failed - contact dealer”. Well that’s handy I thought. I left it on and asked aforementioned salesman about it.

He deleted it with no comment 🙄

He then asked me what I was having problems with, so I patiently explained it yet again. He hadn’t a clue what I was talking about and had assumed I didn’t know how to use the window buttons!😡

So not only hadn’t he read the email, but he hadn’t listened to a word I said on the phone 😡😡

After actually listening to me this time he toddled off to the workshop, returning to tell me I would have to book it in some time after Tuesday 😡😡😡

Why oh why do I try to follow the system and attempt to deal with these millennial muppets 😡😡😡😡

I left, and will go direct to the workshop after the steam has stopped coming out of my ears 🙄

That seems plausible, although the car itself has 1-touch buttons to fully open/close all the windows inside the car! :g:

Interestingly my brother's BMW behaves the same way, i.e. have to hold it to open/close.

I suppose one benefit is you can open the windows a certain amount and not all the way if you want. His one also opens the sun roof! (I guess ours would too, if we had sun/moon/star/sky/space/universe roofs)

Loads of makes/models have had this feature for a long, long time and it's always been that way, as far as I can remember. The first car I had to have the auto opening / closing of windows was a 1991 Cavalier. No remote control in those days, so you had to put the key in the door and hold it in position, but it was still a hold that was required.

Cavalier of that era also had deadlocks that where laughable easy to beat especially if a front window was left slightly open - lift the exterior door handle at the same time as lifting the interior lock button, deadlocks beaten & door opens.

Vauxhall did fix that security flaw for 93 MY IIRC.
