In my experience, if you leave the car in Ready mode and the hybrid Battery is getting low, then the engine will start to recharge the hybrid Battery. It should continue to charge the 12v Battery.

Gentleman thank you for your interest and replies ..

My problem was I took the car to the wrong Toyota Main Agent

After a couple of recommendations I took the car to Toyota Gandia , about sixty miles away , the appointment was for 4.0pm , we booked in and they did all the paperwork ( it’s Spain so theirs lots) and by 5.30pm we were home .5.50pm they rang and told us they found the problem ..The electric motor that drives the water pump wasn’t switching off .So short journeys where the car wasn’t getting up to temperature wasn’t a problem , when it did get up to temperature and it was running there was no fault showing because it was running showing normal discharge ..so when the other dealer started the car and checked it there wasn’t a fault , had they run it up to temperature and switched it off they would have found the fault ..

A new motor and fitting 925€ …ouch ! ..

Thats an expensive pump.

The pump is doing its job of circulating coolant. Surely it would be a sensor or controlling relay or ecu at fault, which controls the pump, not the pump itself?

Or does the pump contain the sensor and controller?

I believe the electric inverter coolant pump has 4 wires. 2 for powering the pump, and 2 for the pump speed sensor signal going back to the controlling ecu.

Either way glad to hear its hopefully resolved.
