I have a 63 reg estate but am getting only 35mpg. 

Have had it checke dand the garage cannot find anything?

What can I do?

1.8 petrol 35mpg is just about right . 
What is your engine, transmission, mileage, last serviced?

We had a 62 plate Avensis 2.0 D4D estate and the dash MPG display was always pessimistic, anywhere from 5-10 MPG below the actual calculated figure. If you haven't done a brim-to-brim manual MPG calculation yet I would do that before going any further.
