Hi all,

Having a strange issue with my 2013 Estima. Occasionally when starting it the handbrake, abs and airbag lights stay on, the rev meter and speedo needles don't move and the gear indicator does not come on. The power doors act strangely only opening slightly and beeping. If I turn the car off the doors work fine.

The issue goes away after a couple minutes of driving so far and happens sporadically.

Any thoughts on what it could be or anyone encountered this before?

Cheers,

Apart from the ECU needing a cup of coffee to wake itself up quicker no idea. Anyone you know have a copy of Toyota Techstream, their software for fault finding and generally exercising the on board computer stuff. Worked a treat for my keyless door issue.

Hi David,IMO it's likely related to the Battery, grounding, or possibly the alternator.A weak or failing Battery can cause all sorts of erratic behavior. Check if the terminals are tight and free of corrosion. Bad ground connections are common and often cause weird electrical issues. Check any ground straps and connections between the engine, chassis, and Battery. A failing alternator might not provide enough voltage at startup, leading to a temporary malfunction in the electronics.

Sometimes, a faulty ignition switch can cause power issues to the dashboard instruments and other components.A bad fuse or relay can intermittently cause the issues you're experiencing.I would start by checking the battery and grounds, scan for any stored fault codes and if nothing shows up it really is a question of going through the above methodically.😀
