Hi, I got a brand new corol hybrid car. While I was reading the owner's manaul, I came across an odd paragraph that seems bizzare to me. It mentioned:

"Turn off any unnecessary electrical components when the vehicle is running at a low speed for an extended period, such as in heavy traffic."

I learned that the 12 v Battery is charged by hybrid Battery (READY mode) and in low speed obviously we are in this mode as well. While 12 Battery is being charged by hybrid battery, what is the point of turning off electrical equipments as stated in the owner'manual? I will be grateful if someone can explain it to me.

I've never read my owner's manual, so this is news to me. Though it doesn't seem to have caused any issues. My 12v Battery is still fine at 3 years old.

In my manual that's in section 8-2. Steps to take in an emergency.

The full section appears to be:

■To prevent 12-volt Battery discharge

●Turn off the headlights and the audio system while the hybrid system is off.

●Turn off any unnecessary electrical components when the vehicle is running at a low speed for an extended period, such as in heavy traffic.

But it's not clear why it's in that section or why it says it. Those pages of the manual are dealing with discharged 12v Battery (or discharged traction battery) so it might be trying to say that if you have previously discharged the 12v Battery and are in a recovery situation.

It might make sense in that situation to maximise the rate of charge going into the 12v battery in order to bring it back to a good SOC as soon as possible.

This is perhaps about preventing the hybrid Battery been drained quickly and use of petrol engine to recharge it.
Save fuel and reduce emissions.
Definitely nothing to do with 12v Battery been charged better or not. The hybrid system will take care of anything and maintain charge of the 12v Battery regardless of scenario or accessories been used.
