Changing front windscreen wiper blades

Hi all,

My current wipers are leaving smears on the screen and don't really feel effective. I've never changed Wiper Blades before except for the rear wiper in my old MK3 Yaris which seemed easier than the fronts. Are there any guides out there to follow or could anyone please direct me how to change the 2 front blades in MK4 Yaris? I'm too scared of breaking something, or taking the current blades off and not being able to manage getting the replacements on - leaving me in the embarrassing situation of having no blades on at all.

I was looking at these two Denso blades:

I'm guessing the 24 inch is what I need, but then what's the 16 inch for?

Thank you for any help

Regards,

Julian

A lot of cars have a larger windscreen wiper for the drivers side (which clears a larger area up to the A pillar on the driver's side), and a smaller wiper for the passenger side.

Take a flat bladed screwdriver and lift up the locking tab. The blade then just unhooks off the arm, hook the new one on and push down the locking tab again to lock in place, easy enough

I use Bosch Aero wipers whenever possible, long life and smear-free.

Measure them with the tape measure to be sure and have a look here, it tells you what is compatible for your car.
Get the full front set part number and look on eBay, should be under £20

I'm still on the original set of PIAA wipers I put on; Over 3 years old, still working as they did when new

That's one thing I would have liked from the Mk3 - I've always liked the single giant cantilevered wiper it comes with rather than 2 boring normal ones

Found it a bit weird they went back to the conventional design, but maybe the single wiper wasn't clearing the ADAS area properly or something...

As a new owner of a Mk 3 I'm new to the big single wiper, but I'm quite impressed with its efficiency. The screen wash (on the other hand) takes a bit of mastering...

Some makes have two equal sized blades that sweep up to both A pillars - saves the manufacturer having to have different wiper patterns for LHD and RHD .....

Yeah I thought those were pretty clever too - Much better sweep pattern without leaving that annoying unswept gap on the passenger side.

Alas I think they will die off on modern cars as the unswept area is right behind the rear-view mirror, which was genius as it was dead space, until they put the ADAS pod there...

Denso hybrid are better than Bosch aero and perfect fit same as the original factory ones. These cars are designed for these type of wipers , anything else may and cause wind noise.
Also Denso clean very good. If the rubbers aren’t broken you can clean them with sponge and car wash 🧽 and they will work for another season.

I put Bosch wipers on my last Yaris. The bit that connects to the wiper arm looks ugly, just a lump of plastic with no aerodynamic design. They also juddered unless the screen was perfectly clean. Next time I’ll probably fit Toyota ones.

That’s what I am talkin about, and if you buy and fit Bosch classic for example they or any other type different from Denso hybrid which re the oem Toyota wipers will block your view, create air hissing at speeds over 60mph, won’t clean nice and it will destroy the whole look of the car.
Bosch aero only good for cars that came with these as oem.
They has different fittings and stay flat.

not had an issue with Bosch aerotwins the design has changed in the last few years - on the other hand the oem denso blades are not great 12-14 months and they start to show their age

I know you have now bought blades, but, just for future reference, I bought genuine Toyota blades recently from my local dealership. They were very competitively priced and, obviously, a perfect fit.

If they were Toyota Optifit, these are actually made by Trico to Toyota's specifications. A cheaper alternative to the factory fit blades.
