How bad is this rust? In terms of buying the car? I read in another thread that the cross member might look bad but is only surface level.

The axle etc is not great, not terrible, right?

Hi Mathias,Given the age of the car, it's normal to expect some rust. But how much rust there is, and whether you're willing to investigate and deal with it yourself, is another matter.Without a proper inspection of the underside and likely needing a garage car lift then it’s hard to know how bad the rust really is beyond what you can see. Unless the car is a real bargain, I'd probably keep looking for one in better condition.😃

That back axle looks to be reasonably corroded. I am an MOT tester and tested an 07 plate recently and the rear axle was so bad that the coil spring mounting plate was almost fully detached.

”Reasonably” as in “as expected” for the age? Sorry, English is not my first language 😃

Yes age related and maybe not maintained to a better standard.

I think you have to wash the car underneath first to evaluate properly. It doesn’t look that bad at first sight and many cars of this age will be exactly the same.

Thanks!

It is sort of a bargain in that it is low mileage (~140K kilometers) and priced just above cars with much higher mileage. I just wanted to make sure it doesn't break down in the next few years or so!
