They will not tell me until I either admit that there is a claim or I prove that there was no claim.

If I'm reading this correctly, they have said that the calculation of the "cost" includes a claim being made for the theft. Can you ask them to provide you with the evidence that a claim was made as they have used that evidence in their calculations?

I know that's likely to be like juggling soot but it might get someone thinking about it.

Also, who maintains the database? And who is responsible for the accuracy of its contents? It just might be worth contacting them - if you can find out who they are....

Good luck.

They have not given me a cost associated with the alleged claim. They have provided proof that there is a claim on the CUE database for the theft of the Honda. The people that handle Hastings Direct claims (4th dimension) have admitted putting it there but deny that it is a claim even though if you check on the CUE database it shows as a claim.

It is just a nightmare.

Try contacting the Information Commissioner's Office.

https://ico.org.uk/for-the-public/

I don't know if it counts as "personal data" but I guess that they'll know the legalities of having incorrect info on a database and what you can do to have it put right.

All the best.

Hastings really should check if they'd filed it wrong, esp. if you have proof from the other insurer you can show them. Alternatively, see if Hastings can provide proof it isn't a claim in writing that you could pass on to the other insurer.

Otherwise the MIB (Motoring Insurance Bureau, not Men In Black!) are probably the people you'd need to contact if you don't get any joy from Hastings. Contact details page is https://www.mib.org.uk/managing-insurance-data/mib-managed-services/cue/

Thanks - I was trying to recall the "correct" body but couldn't bring it to mind. 🤔

Maybe Men In Black would provide a faster resolution..... 😂

It is also very wrong that as far as claims goes a bike claim affects car insurance prices and vice versa. I can't use my bike no claims for a car policy or vice versa, they are treated completely separately so the same should be true for claims. House insurance claims do not affect car policy prices why should one vehicle type affect another type.

The more vehicles you have the more it costs you for a claim. I ran through a lot of options regarding claiming for the Honda and no way was it going to be worth claiming £650 when every policy I have or am a named driver on went up by £100 because of it. That is two policies for me and three policies that I am a named driver on. At £100 per policy per year for five years the additional cost is £2500.

Grump grump whinge moan etc etc.

Another grump day today. Got an email from RAC. Price increase another £250 on top of the original price I already paid because I did not mention a claim that never happened.

It seems that the instant you tell your insurance of a loss it goes on their database and will affect any vehicle insurance quotes for the next six years.

I suppose the only plus to this is that they did not cancel the policy. If that had happened then I would have had a "insurance refusal" on my record and once that happens it is really hard to find anyone to insure you.

Thankfully it is not due to start until the 26th Nov so I can cancel (distance selling regulations = 14 days to cancel) and get all my money back and run al the quote sites again with the "claim" added. Cheapest so far is £265.

It leaves a very bitter taste behind does all this and for sure I shall now claim for the bike.

I had a claim a few years ago when a woman reversed into me in a car park. I saw her coming and stopped reversing, she didn’t and hit my car. Her brother appeared and insisted it was knock for knock and we should pay for our own repairs. I didn’t agree and took photos just in case. My repairs were quoted at about a grand so I contacted my insurance company - to find she had already claimed! We were both with the same company, who decided that we were both reversing in a car park so it was 50/50 😡

So I ended up with an “at fault” claim for someone else driving into me!

I hate insurance companies almost as much as the legal system (but that’s a different rant 🙄)

The great ship Insurance Company Incompetence sails blissfully along leaving folks lots and lots of money (incorrectly) out of pocket.

It's why I always have the sat nav on (as it records "zero" mph) and have Dash Cams.

That doesn't help if you were not there and didn't do it.

I have read an awful lot around this and apparently if you sell a car but do not cancel the insurance and the new buyer ram raids the crown jewels with that car then your insurance will pay.

Hundreds of stories about people being caught the same way I have been and it is not possible to do anything other than chalk it down as a lesson learned.

Sounds like something to get anyone and everyone involved - MP, Ombudsman, Justice Dept. Press, Elon Musk (😉) as it clearly isn't right or fair.

But whether anyone will listen and actually do something to change the rules is, of course, another matter.

Might is right......

Insurance companies prioritise their bottom line, driven primarily by profit. Just look at the high excesses on many policies—they often act as both judge and jury on accident responsibility, as well as on premium adjustments. I wish we had a fairer system. I get the right grump dealing with them every year.😡

Here's a very unusual story for you. Some years ago my wife was pulling out of a station car park when traffic suddenly came from the right, so she eased back in by about 2 feet. Unfortunately some dippy old midget woman with a huge rucksack walked behind her. The result was that the lady was gently knocked over, left on her back with her arms and feet in the air. My wife (a nurse) got out and attended her and she seemed perfectly fine. Unusually there was a police car about 30 feet away who witnessed the small knock. My wife had a chat with all concerned and came home. (Never mentioned it to me). About a year later a letter came to us, COMPLETELY IN ERROR, with our insurance company disputing a huge claim from midget womens claim. This letter also had testimony from a doctor that midget woman worked with, claiming facial scarring, neck and spine damage!! We contacted our insurance company who said that the letter was sent to us in error and was really nothing to do with us and that they would dispute the claim. If I remember correctly the midget womans claim was about 30K. I doubt she got that amount it was a bizarre experience. My wife was never prosecuted by the fuzz and we never heard anything again but it was very worrying. Probably all fuelled by those adverts on daytime tele encouraging people to make claims.

With the recent tax grab on employers and the already high cost of eating and drinking in pubs, are we in danger of seeing our pubs disappear? Faced with these increased costs, pubs may have no choice but to raise their prices even further. This makes me sad and extremely grumpy.😡

Yesterday, I popped into the local post office to get some Euros, but the rate they offered was lower than what was quoted online. I mentioned this to the guy behind the counter, and he said if I ordered online, I could pick them up the next day. So, I went to place the order online, only to find there’s a minimum order of £400.Since we only needed £100, we had no choice but to go back today. The original guy I spoke to was busy, so I paid for the Euros and started to tell his colleague about the minimum order. Before I could finish my sentence, he walked away and completely ignored me and went into the office at the back.

I only mentioned it to help them inform other customers, but the attitude of these people! Most of them have a problem with dealing with customers and the faces on them look like a bulldog chewing a wasp. Is there some kind of training school that teaches them how to be complete 🤬?” grumpy beyond words🤬

These people left school wanting to be policemen. Though they satisfied the entry requirements on the personality level they were too good with numbers to join so they went into another public service occupation.

It looks like a fair few shall be jobless fairly soon given the news from the Post Office about closures.

Part of me wonders what else can be thrown at them given the scandal that still hasn't been fully compensated AFAIK. Or maybe that's a different "bit" of what I know as "The Post Office?"

I have a grump going with them at the moment and it is going nowhere.

They delivered a parcel that was addressed to me at number47 to number 51. There is a picture of it at 51 on the tracking. They will not go and get it and deliver it to me. I have tried a few times but there is never anyone in.

To go any further I have to get in touch with the sender. The problem is they will not tell me who the sender is or where it came from so I cannot do any more about it.

There is one thing the post office do better than anyone else. They supply elastic bands if you stop one in the street and ask, they always have a pocketful.
