Hi all,

Recently I was given a non running yaris 1.5 ts model fo free because the ignition lock is bust and the old owner only has a slave key, no remote fob master key present.

I've got a spare lock set obtained off another scrapped ts yaris purchased off eBay many years ago.

The problem is that I can't find where the black tvss control unit is fitted.

I've already removed the top portion of dash to change the central locking ecu and door control relè too, ecu is done aswell, just the immobiliser unit needs swapping over but I can't locate it anywhere..

Anyone know?

Cheers.

tvss is the optional alarm, you are talking about the factory immobiliser

did the ECU come with the key/chip and barrel loop

there is no black box the immobilizer is built into the main ECU the barrel loop acts as the transponder

be aware all Yaris TS cars are built in Japan and require the same ECU (part number) that comes out of the car, same with the remote ecu they a very different to the French built cars the Jap cars tend to use the Tokai-Rika  fobs

What codes do you have from the car

do you have a confirmed working key and does the remote fob have its passive chip in the case

The Immobiliser chip lives in the plastic case with the buttons

Thanks for the rapid reply!

Yeah, I meant the factory immobiliser.

I'll get you a few photos to show you the parts I have.

I've managed to fool the immobiliser system by using an old, grey non remote key found in a drawer and tie wrapped the key through the transponder ring and bridged the ignition key pick up that tells the ecu that there's a key inserted.

My main concern is will the system somehow realise that the immobiliser is permanently disabled?

I read somewhere on the net that the ecu could permanently shut down?

Thanks again.

I had a £200 Nissan that only had one key (learner driver car!) and no master key so couldn't program another key. I took the immobiliser chip out of the key and gluded it by the immobiliser ring around the ignition barrel. I then had 3 non chipped keys cut at Timpsons and it was fine.  Toyota maybe a bit fussier?
