Hi

I am in the process of fitting terminal leads to my 12 volt Battery to enable easy charging

After removing the rear seat it is relatively easy to access the negative terminal post

However I can not see a way of getting to the positive terminal post

It is covered by red plastic cover which unclips but can not then be rotated to allow access to the terminal post.

It is hinged to another red cover which is on the front of the Battery, I have no idea how to remove it

I have attached some photos to show the problem

Has anyone been able to gain access to the positive terminal post

From what little I have seen I have noticed that there appears to be a nut locking compound on the clamp nut which is not on the negative terminal

Hi John to access the positive pole you need to

remove negitive wire then remove bolt holding Battery in place.

Slide Battery out so you can flip up it red lid good idea to wrap insulating tape around socket bar for positive post working.  It a safty thing in case negitive pole comes into contact with it pole when disconnected.

Not sure but check you have not disloged air vent when sliding Battery back in & you may need to lift the back slightly when pushing if it sticks.

After unlocking car have a cupper before working on electrics and leave

keys in house when working on car so you dont waken up electronic systems.

I fitted a socket and did not need to remove the Battery.  Both Battery terminals have an 8mm threaded bolt, to which I fitted a cable with M8-sized ring tags and an M8 nut.

You can easily see this on the negative terminal.  On the positive, it's a little trickier, but if you remove the rear seat, then the red cover can be lifted up a fraction, enough to feel for the threaded end to fit the ring tag and nut.

Sorry I didn't take any pics at the time.  The accessory I bought was this one, and I fitted it to the plastic Battery cover so I had a permanently-live 12v socket which could be used to connect a charger, should that be necessary.

It's the nut you can see just behind the red cover in your second picture.

I can see the nut but due to the limited space I cant see how I can get a spanner or socket on to it.

I can see you both have Yaris Cross models so it might be that you have a bit more room to get onto the nut

Derek W did suggest that I could slide the Battery forward but I am reluctant to tackle that

Whomever dreamt up that location and poor access needs a reality slap on the head with a wet Haddock. 🙄

I was in the same situation with the Battery in my Yaris Cross and because I am in my 70's I didn't feel confident that if I moved the Battery to get at the +ve terminal I would be able to get it back in place so I asked Steven Eagell to connect the ctek charger leads for me which they were kind enough to do free of charge.

What @Derek.w said is the correct way and isn't in anyway difficult. His advice about keeping the neg terminal wire away from touching anything is sound - however hard I tried, it would flip back and try and reattach itself. I tied it back with a bit of garden string.

I also wrapped my spanner in some insulation tape; as @Derek.w says, there isn't a lot of room and it's safer not to cause any sparks. If it helps, I used a ring spanner with a rachet end so once attached to the nut it was a simple matter to just use a back-and-forth action when loosening or tightening.

It all sounds more difficult than it is.

Alternatively a Battery shop will add a charge tail for a few £££ for you; dealers have done it for other members but you may be charged their hourly rate.

What settings do you lose when disconnecting 12V Battery? Could be a pain to reconfigure everything previously customised to my requirements…

From memory (no pun intended) nothing was lost.

I lost very little info at the most radio to retune phone shortcuts most stuff it downloads from memory after reconnecting Battery and goint to accessory position or pushing the start button twice without tutching brake pedal.

I just used a small socket set for terminal post you may need to cut a notch in the red plastic lid for it to go down over your attached wire or try moving its position again.

You may want to add a inline fuse note Noco unit have there own fuse but Ctek do not but then both units are electronicly protected against shorts.

Anything attached to the Battery, even the charger leads, should have their own fuses - the closer to the Battery the better as the length up to the fuse is unprotected and insulation damage there might lead to the fire

The Noco charger it fuse is 13cm away fron the crimp ring.

Ctek you have to purchase a inline fuse holder it can be pre wired but you probably need at least the crimp ring & a connector for opposite end then a 5Amp fuse.

With the Ctek you can use the same fuse for other items on same fuse line it easer to add just remove fuse first.
