Prius Gen 4 12v Battery: losing charge

My car is Auris but they are almost identical to Prius gen3. At the moment is close to 284k miles and every single day I add another 150-200miles.
I had only changed brakes few times because of rust issues before I started to drive more and wheel bearings and two rear springs plus stabiliser bar bushes and links not long ago, anything else is till original and of course new batteries but these are unavoidable.
The car never visit garages for any repairs in my possession ( 8 years), only for tyres MOT and air con regas.
Best car I ever had and no plans to change until totally dies.

Other than the Battery issue which started this thread, I hope my Prius Gen 4 continues to be an excellent car for many more years. However, I doubt it will reach the amazing mileages mentioned by @TonyHSD @Paul john.

Hi Peter,

I bought a Gen 3 Prius from new in 2010 in which I did 60,000+ miles that were absolutely trouble free. All I ever paid out for were tyres, services & MOTs. I didn’t even have to replace brake pads exhaust etc in fact the car never let me down. I bought my present Gen 4 Prius Excel once again from new in 2016 & yet again it’s proving to be trouble free even though it’s the longest I’ve ever kept a car.

The Prius in my opinion, is a brilliant car & easily the most reliable I’ve ever driven. I’m amazed how the Gen 4 fell out of favour with drivers, since the numbers sold plummeted compared to the previous Gen 3. I guess the drive to all electric vehicles has had its effect on other car sales but until the problem with lack of public charging points is sorted I’m happy to keep my Prius!

@BhxTrev Notwithstanding my Battery issue (and replacing one shock absorber), your thoughts about the Prius Gen 4's popularity and excellence align with mine.

Agreed…

The 2016-2019 model was a C-change from the driving style of gen2/gen3 and widely accepted as a better car so bought in large numbers. The 2019 facelift was a disapointment to a number of people as they dropped the ball by not implementing AA/Carplay until a year later. The 2020 and beyond was let down by supply issues. Covid, Chipageddon and Toyota limiting production and closing factories in Japan ( which is the only country the Gen4 was made ) added to this. I had to wait 13 months for my 2022(PCP uplift from my 2019). A lot of people don't have that patience so in its last year only about 200 were registered in uk (99% of those the “active” base model <source howmanyleft.co.uk>). That combined with Toyotas decision to terminate the brand in 2022 and not offer the Gen5 (unlike America that got it in early 2023) to UK until 2024 meant that Prius as a brand had a 2 year break and folks turned to the corolla hb/ts.

@Paul john Your Prius Excel 2022 must be rare. The word "divisive" is often mentioned in relation to the Gen 4's styling. I added Wolfrace alloys and a side door protector to mine (see attached). I think this helps. Also, having owned a Honda Jazz and a Toyota Starlet beforehand, I get bullied less by other drivers in my Gen 4 Prius. I think its styling scares them or I look like a Uber taxi 😄.

I like the wheels , much improvement over the original covers.
yes a number of factors may make mine less common than most. Its an Excel its in phantom blue and has a white interior. And of course 2022.

I really like how the interior colour contrasts with the striking bodywork colour. I'm jealous.
