Question:  there are lots of rumours but what does anyone know about the redesign of the RAV4?

I'm pretty sure that we now know that there isn't one - i.e. it won't happen for 2025.

As and when it does happen, the facelift or redesign will be to suit the US market - since that is where the vast majority of RAV4s are sold.

The 2025 model range for the US is already announced or in train - see https://www.toyota.com/ > Upcoming Vehicles for what's expected over there.

And when it does happen, it will most likely follow the design cues of the Highlander, 4Runner and Tacoma - i.e. it will look like a [small] American truck ... just as it does now ... 😉

Hi all....how very true; slightly off topic comment;

During a recent TV news broadcast live from a street in New York, I counted 7 Rav 4 yellow cabs passing in the background over approx. 2 mins.

Barry Wright, Lancashire.

I doubt they will change it a lot until 2026

I've been following the American RAV forums and Reddit . It's a very popular vehicle for taxi drivers and couriers. Many folks with over 400k miles on the clock. And only seeing relatively minor repairs. Pretty amazing.

Suspect there won't be much change. Expecting it to look slightly more boxy and rugged. Probably a slightly longer range Battery. Possibly a little more power especially at the rear.  Interior options or just a better interior. Whether it comes with the new Toyota engines is another matter.

It will most likely follow the same pattern released at least a year or more in the USA before making its way to the EU/EU. By then of course many of the 'built in' option will be missing, especially for the UK market.

None the less, it will be interesting to see which way Toyota or going with this model. I think by the time I come to change mine I will be looking for a smaller car than the RAV.

I may go the same way. AWD PHEV Corolla Cross might just work if there is one. Or just a 420+ mile range compact EV SUV in 3 years. I'm liking the new smaller Rivians. Just need more range.

Sadly, in the wisdom of Toyota we do not need that model in the UK, probably to protect UK manufacture of the Toyota models? Otherwise I'd be looking very carefully at that model.

There isn't a massive difference between the size of a Corolla TS, Corolla Cross & RAV4 & they possibly felt that they wouldn't shift many more units with 3 models than with 2 but they would then have to carry additional spares etc.. It's all about the bottom line.

I do agree that it is annoying though as I suspect that a Corolla Cross would suit me marginally better than a Corolla TS. (I must look up the European sales figures for both)

@Hayzeeit looks good stuff on paper but I’ve got jaundiced over the years with the amount of ‘click bate’ headlines for new batteries, engines etc. just around the corner. If they all came to pass we’d be travelling for free.

I can already go 1000km in my RAV4 PHEV. 56 miles on the Battery, 460 miles on fuel, 90 miles of reserve fuel.

Give me 400hp with at last 100 at the rear, and a 75 mile Battery range and I'll get one when the company lease is up on the GR Sport replacement RAV arriving mid September (delayed by 2 weeks).

Perhaps one of these would suit: Fangchengbao Bao 5 ?

Got to give it the Chinese, they're leading the way in some areas. Quite like the look of this.

I couldn't afford the insurance!!! I does seem to tick a lot of boxes, especially if it was reliable.

I thought that you might - I do too. It would give you the 75+ miles EV range that you are after, over 600 bhp where you only asked for 400 bhp and 0-60 in 4.8 seconds which is getting silly ...

That seems to be the BYD hybrid tech referred to in the speculative article posted by Colin  @Hayzee. Toyota are developing their own 1.5L four pot turbo engine so are "catching up" with other manufacturers in that space and I assume that they would use a Toyota engine. I could well imagine them 'buying in' Battery technology from BYD. Which leaves the question of the Toyota eCVT or a BYD alternative - we quite like the eCVT so any alternative would need to be very, very good.

But none of that will happen by 2025 ... 😉

US car news outlets reporting that it'll arrive 2026. There isnt a specific US Rav4 (despite engine variants) so I wonder how true it is. The Sequoia in the US looks pretty good and is new so I wonder if it'll look like that or be more Prius/CHR inspired.

If it's available early 2027 then that would work.

I do love seamless unnoticeable transition between Battery and ice on the RAV. Rather than the big clunks on other PHEVs and the clunk changing gears.
