Just seen my quote from direct line £501 up from £335 last year, ouch, worth shopping around do you think?

Sadly, that's in today's "ballpark" for your car but personally I would never pay for insurance without using all the comparison sites first.... I know it's time consuming but it's nearly always worth it...

I agree with CPN, it's always worth shopping around. There's no reward for loyal customers, plus it's our only method of trying to get insurance companies to at least monitor their pricing.

it worth telling direct line is that the best you can do as most of the time they seem to come down in price. Its a bit like Sky TV they will increase the amount until you complain then give you a good deal for a bit.

Definitely worth shopping around - Insurance companies always try it on and as mentioned there is no benefit for loyalty. If anything they usually try and screw you over if you show any sort of loyalty!

Before the FCA banned lower insurance premiums, I've only twice in my driving life had renewal quotes that weren't significantly higher than the average from shopping around.

Also I thought that now there was some legal legislation that insurance companies have to give you the same price as they would a new customer. I suspect they find ways around that but worth checking. Also try changing things on quotes like keeping in on the drive or road as sometimes keeping it on the road brings the quote down. Just like never say you are divorced just say you are single and if you become unemployed done say you are unemployed say you are a house husband. All these things make a difference.

They didn't ban lower insurance premiums, they banned insurance companies charging new customers less than existing customers.

Yes, and predictably, rather than lower renewal premiums to what they'd give new customers, they raised new customer premiums to renewal premiums.

They did the same thing when the FCA told them they couldn't discriminate between men and women - Rather than lower men's insurance, they raised womens' to the same heights as men's.

As a result insurance premiums are the highest they've ever been.

Thanks FCA, please don't help us like this any more, we can't afford it! :fear:

I will shop around indeed I have got a quote from LV and they’re coming in at £318, considerably cheaper however, my insurance will replace my car with a brand new one in the first two years so long as I am the first registered keeper ( which I am) , I’ll keep shopping around..

Once you get your cheapest quote go to quidco.com and buy it through that. It will give you a lump of cash back in three months.

I just renewed one of my bikes. £90 was as cheap as I could get then went to quidco and bought it. I will get £24 back around Christmas.

you can get specific insurance to make sure you get the full value of the car its generally called GAP insurance. There has been some issues with some companies over it and dealers making a mark up but I think if you go direct you might find it cheaper.

I got gap cover on mine separate from the dealer and LV insurance who I am with at the moment and it will make up the difference to the value of the original car when new for the first 5 years regardless of what insurance company I go with. I paid a one time fee of £200 for the gap cover so I know if it gets written off in the first 5 years I will get the full car value regardless of what the insurance offers me.

I also took out GAP insurance wen I bought my C-HR. Just as @MardyMarvin I took it out independently and saved a fortune.
