Top mounts auris

I have been told that the top mounts on my auris need changing due to a noise.  Any ideas how much I should expect it to cost including parts and labour? I live in the Watford area.

Toyota direct had one mount at £155. Should I get a compatible part? If so, which is a good make? Thanks

Can you describe the noise and when it happens? Also age mileage  model of car?

Who has told you that two mounts need replacement? What noise and when exactly does it happen? Any video records?

Auris 1.6 2013 hatchback. 87k miles.  I noticed a noise coming from the driver’s side front when driving across uneven road. I needed to go up north and didn’t want any an issue on the motorway so called the AA to check it out.  The engineer drove the car around and said the top mounts are worn. I asked whether if it could be the drop links but he discounted that saying steering would vibrate if it was that. The sound is not very loud in the cabin.  He said the car is ok to drive for now.  I will try and record the sound today and upload.

Yeah, do the sound record and share with us.
Top mounts can fail and cause slight knock like noises when driving at slow speeds over uneven roads. If they are worn out completely they will likely make a whole strut assembly moving when wheels is in the air, car secured on stands and grabbed wheel 6 and 12 o’clock.
Another way to test the mounts bearings that can also fail again with wheels of the ground turn slowly steering wheel left to right full locks and watch and listen for the struts if they rotate quietly and no jumping occurs.
Without these two tests it is difficult to say for sure that mounts are gone. Just by a test drive it will be a guess work imo.

Hi,

Difficult to say for sure it’s them but the tests will help. If they don’t move and are rock solid then might be something else.
Ball joints, tie rod ends, stabiliser bar links and suspension arm bushes can create similar noises.

When jacked up, things to check.

Check for a broken spring on the strut.

Also check for any wheel bearing play 12 oclock, 6 oclock and 3 o clock,9 oclock.

Also give the tyre a sideways thud kick and listen for any noises.
