Hello, I just bought a 2022 Corolla 1.8 hybrib flex and the bonnet does not have acoustic lining inside.  Do yours also have the metal plate visible, or are they coated?

I don't think the 1.8 has it.

Can't remember if mine has it or not. I do remember it's a rather light bonnet, so I suspect not.

Only 2.0 has bonnet insulation on all trim levels and on excel top trim in uk both 2.0 amd 1.8 has it.
Not a big deal I think if not fitted as standard., but would be nice to have it as any sound insulation counts.

Oh no not a other Corolla bonnet sound insulation thread 😅

Easy enough to retrofit if you really want to.

Its not as if the car os noisy.

Its a second hand car and i want to be sure its ok.

I dont think the car os noisy.

Only 2.0 engines have it, reason being they have direct injection which is noisier than the port injection the 1.8 has, and needs the insulation to maintain NVH levels.

I'm sure you'd be able to buy one but not sure how much difference it would make.

The reason is that Toyota saves tons of money.
I personally like to have this cover , without it the car looks like Warburg, unfinished and cheap. The sound reduction is probably minimal but if they fit these to excel all engines they should do to all cars above entry icon.

You appear to have contradicted yourself there Tony!

Checked today and I've got it on my 2.0, but it's very insubstantial and doesn't cover the entire underside of the bonnet, only the central area directly above the engine. Wouldn't bother to retrofit if I didn't have it already.

Probably yes , but the truth is that it’s not really a big deal but it is a nice thing to have.
The real reason is not a technical but economical and to save money for the manufacturer.

From my time with a 1.8 Design (no under bonnet mat) the engine noise is irrelevant compared to the road noise.

Is the Yaris cross gr much better in terms of road noise and overall harshness?

As a former owner of the 1.8 Excel, I can confirm that the bonnet has an acoustic lining on the inside.
