Hello! New here. I was wondering how you can tell if my Mk1 was the 1.6 16V version. And if the engine was 80KW or 85... etc.

I have the original manual but not sure where I can find these information.

AW11 unless its a JDM car will be a 4AGEL, 118 bhp 16 valve

Edit. that has had an engine swap/rebuild so who knows what has been done to it or the power output it's either a blue or red top but the cam cover has been repainted

It's usually shown on the top of the camshaft cover.

OP's image what I downloaded and converted shows a silver cam cover with all red lettering

Red samco type silicon hoses all around

Blue top block has 3 ribs, red top has 7 ribs iirc

  • 3 weeks later...

That's a mk1a so possibly a 3-rib small port.

EDIT: Just saw the title of the post. 1985 would almost certainly be a blue top (3-rib/big port). Of course, it could have been swapped at some point.  Anecdotally, bum dynos have the older engines as more peppy than the later ones.
