Been playing with the driving modes for the last couple of weeks and have noticed that, when I switch the car off in power mode, and switch on again,( usually the next day) it doesn’t remain in that setting, yet if I do exactly the same in eco mode, it reverts to this mode upon start up , just wondering why..

Probably because Toyota believe you would only want/need to use Power mode for part of a journey (say on winding country roads), whereas with Eco, they expect some people would want to use that mode continuously.
Might also relate to the published efficiency rating which cannot be achieved if the car is constantly in Power mode 🤷‍♂️, so that mode is only available per journey

Also it's probably not a default setting.

Seems strange though, you’d think it’s default setting would be normal mode and then the driver can choose from there..

Standard behaviour across all the hybrids i have driven in the last 19 years.

eco and normal remain, sport doesnt.

I think it's more of a twilight zone. With cars and every device we have - TV, PVRs, phones, tablets, even the coffee maker - there is always something that makes me think "WTF?". It's all in the intersection of legal requirements, cost and the designer's mindset. Very grey.

Power does not give you extra power all it does is tweak a few things mainly how quick it responds when you hit the accelerator. So their reasoning is as per the manual you use it when you need to nip out but otherwise just drive in the normal mode. Just like they don't recommend driving in economy mode.

I do agree though as a user it should be upto you what mode you want and it should remeber it per start. Perhaps thats why power mode is the first option after standard.

I find it to awkward to use while moving so just leave it in Eco all the time except when I have a full load, then I change it Normal before I move off; I half-wish it was a control on the steering wheel or at least higher up, or maybe as a Push-to-Pass button? :whistling1:

The thing that always makes me laugh about that is the bottom of the car falling off 😂

The only problem I had with power ( sport) mode is that once I try it and then after switch back to Normal, the car feels sluggish and dead in other modes, so for me it’s the forbidden button ⚠️🫢

I wish I could control it with my voice like lots of other things in the car and it might be the one useful control option via voice. I mean saying "Put on wipers" takes more effort then moving the stalk. Or Put passenger window up much quicker to just use the button on the door.

I have the voice recognition set to listen for Kit so it would be cool if I could have said "Kit engage boost" and this would set it to power mode....O the kid in me.

If I had a working Super Pursuit Mode button you wouldn't be able to pry me out of the car!
