Hi I am picking my car on Wed in UK. Ive read the car comes with wifi, what service does this use please and do we have to pay for it? Thanks

You been reading US material haven't you Karen? 😉

The multimedia system fitted in the US can provide a Wi-Fi hotspot for use within the car. It's a subscription service.

That service is not available within European cars. European cars can make use of Wi-Fi to make updates and gather traffic information etc. using a hotspot provided by your smartphone or any other available Wi-Fi service (such as your home Wi-Fi when you are within range).

Interesting ... we neither of us have a bZ4X - all I can say is that I can find no reference to any "Wi-Fi hotspot" feature in the current multimedia system manual for the bZ4X. (And there are YouTube videos demonstrating its use in the US.)

I have just had a look (havent used it in months) Toyota have taken the feature away !!!!
i used to go to the multimedia section of the account and “purchase a subscription”  for my on board wifi.

seems like they cant support the service anymore, i worked with the technical team in 2022-2023 as there were major bugs in the system. Looks like they have conceded its not a viable option to deliver…

now gone….

Strange. This used to be available on Lexus vehicles in the UK. We certainly had it in the NX.

You'd actually be better off with a portable WiFi hotspot (can power from one of the many usb sockets) as Smarty network or any other SIM only service would be significantly cheaper than the Toyota service. My Prius had the WiFi box, but I never activated it as it wasn't value for money for the connection.

Assuming you go for motion or vision the car has it's own connection for map and traffic updates, so unless you are wanting to connect other devices the cars own services will work.

I think it's down to the mobile networks too. I noticed that recently Blackvue and I can't remember the other dash cam manufacturer have switched mobile supplier and customers had to switch out the SIM cards

Recently picked up our BZ4X, working through the handbook ( not the best) and noticed it has internet radio, does anyone know if it is obtained through the onboard Wi-Fi or do we have to link via smartphone Wi-Fi?

That might be USA only.
