It probably will but if not it can be upgraded to support it (I had my '19 Corolla upgraded when it first became an option). It's an expensive option these days but if you're buying from a Toyota dealer I'd pressure them to have it done at no cost to you.

As regards driving it just treat as you would any other automatic but pay no attention to what the engine is doing (or not doing). Once you're used to it there are some techniques you can use to further reduce petrol consumption but driven normally most people see good economy without trying.

Really does depend on when in 2020 it was registered as that was the rollover year for wired aa/Carplay.

why dont you ask your dealer before you collect it.

I've got it on my 69 plate

Late 2020 should have Android auto. If not it might be an option with upgrade.
If this is your first ever Toyota hybrid experience then there will be many new things and strange at first sight as new comer but very typical for these cars.
You will get used to it with the time and problems see you here with some more questions.
Enjoy your new car 👌

Just be aware that spec sheet may be generic or for a different model year - not the same as year of build or registration.

If certain items are required, check on the car itself before you agree a deal. I do this even on a brand new factory order. If it's in stock or available quickly, the dealer will deliver that.

You will also need a phone with at least Android 9 on it.

I think the latest version is 12.

Android 14 is the latest full release, 15 is available as a beta. Should be fully available September.

Well, you need a good quality USB 2.0 or higher data cable. I also suspect that it's down to the socket on the phone end more than anything else. It might also be the result of vibration if the phone is not secure.

There's nothing special about the way Android Auto sends and receives data across the cable so if the cable is not broken and is correctly plugged in it has to work.

Nope. USB is the standard for the connector “shape” there are a number of build combinations for the cable quality which will affect speed of data.

Similar to the HDMI “standards” where cable quality directly affects the ability to play sd / hd / 4k / 8k content.

Some are for charging only, it needs to be data carrier too.

The cable I use is half a metre long and just the shortest I could find in my cables draw. I imagine it came with some piece of equipment I bought at some time or other so I've no idea of the quality.

I can imagine there are some cheap, ratty cables you can buy for a few pence but what doesn't make sense is Android Auto being particularly sensitive to USB cable quality. It's not AA doing the communicating over the cable - that's the corresponding chips(*) in the phone and the infotainment unit. All AA does is the same as any other application - sends a packet of data to the chip concerned. The translation of that to/from electrical signals has nothing to do with AA. A cable should work for all data transfers or it shouldn't work at all.

My theory is that it's a problem with the phone connector. A lot of users charge their phone via USB and the socket becomes worn. The wear is enough to disrupt data transfer but doesn't impact charging because that uses fewer wires and/or more current to overcome poor connectivity. Some cables may just be different enough to make better contact in worn sockets.

As for why it seems like AA is the problem: People don't use USB very often to transfer data to/from phones so I think they just aren't aware that there is a problem until they try to do it.

(*)Probably a single chip that does other hardware related things rather than a dedicated USB chip.

In general a USB charge cable has 2 pins and a data cable has 4pins
