Bizarre "Attention!" messages while driving yesterday

My RAV4 Hybrid is coming up to 3 years old, and yesterday, while driving, a message appeared on the SatNav screen, saying that my "Parking Subscription" was about to expire. "Parking Subscription?!" I exclaimed to myself, but then stopped the car at my next destination.

Later, driving back, a similar message appeared, this time about my "Fuel Subscription". I decided to pull over, and take a photo of this message.

I have literally NO idea what these "subscriptions" are, whether I have inadvertently been paying for services I knew nothing about.

I phoned my dealeship, and read out the message, asking what it was about. Their reply, "We have no idea!"

Wowzers!

Can anyone enlighten me as to what this is all about, and perhaps more importantly, which part of my car is going to stop working if I don't "renew"?

"Fuel subscription" what a hilarious message!

If I had to hazard a guess, especially since you say its coming up to 3 years old it could be related to the inbuilt navigation/mapping software. Parking and fuel are perhaps things that get updated automatically and so when the 3 years are up it perhaps wont do things like tell you about new parking places or petrol stations?

Your car came with 3 years' worth of Map Care when new. This includes map updates as well as Point of Interest information of Parking, Fuel, Speed Cameras and other stuff. Thay are reminding you that those subscriptions are about to expire.

You can safely ignore them unless you have been using these POIs on a regular basis. And/or they may well renew as part of your Map Care renewal should you choose to do so.

Rather sad, but not surprising, that the dealership isn't aware ... 😉

Edit: here's the set for my car:

Brilliant - thanks Philip, that makes perfect sense. And now I've actually "RTM"'d my Navigation manual (which I had never bothered reading before), I can find this info down page N-hundred and something!

Just cross with myself for not knowing that, for the past (nearly) three years, I had the ability to locate fuel prices, parking tariffs and even the weather, right on my built-in sat nav screen! D'oh!!

As I posted yesterday, I've received a couple of bizarre messages on my Sat Nav screen, telling me that my "Parking" and "Fuel" subscriptions are about to expire. Thanks to those who responded, so at least I now know what the heck this is all about.

The messages invited me to go to "my.toyota.eu" to "renew" these services, which I have tried doing.

After logging on, I end up in my Toyota account. Clicking around the website, I eventually find a page where I can locate these "service subscriptions". I selected the "Fuel" option, and am offered a choice of 1, 2 or 3 years licence for £0.00 (ie, free!). Of course, I choose 3 years!

And then I click on "Add to basket" - and NOTHING happens. Zilch.

I've tried this in two separate browsers. NOTHING.

Any suggestions about what I can do to renew these features before they expire?!

What do you get when you click "Combo offers for this product"?

I strongly suspect that these come 'free' with a Map Care renewal at £119 for one or three years depending on the eStore's mood ...

You can't 'buy' them on their own.

I've just updated my maps, but these additional services were not updated at the same time. And the website (as well as the on-screen message shown in my post) seems to be inviting me to renew these items. Only there is no way to do so!

Confused messaging from Toyota on this one.

Aha - thanks philip42h - figured it now. You're right - I would need to download the PAID annual update subscription in order to get these services extended.

Seems a bit mean of Toyota to charge for services which rely on using my phone and my data plan!

Cheaper for me to use Apple CarPlay to access Google Maps!
