Hello 🙂 I have a 2019 Corolla Touring Sports with touch2go navigation. The sat nav maps are outdated, contacted toyota who told me helpfully I could just used my phone or pay >£400 to have the maps updated by them which was a firm no from me...

Of course I can use Google maps on my phone but there doesnt seem to be a way to display it on the HUD.

Is there anywhere I can download the relevant map update for free/less than toyota? I would like to install android auto if I'm not able to update the maps

Hi,

the drivers smartphone is the best navigation or entertainment device in any car.
Cars own maps aren’t as good as phone with Google maps or any other preferred app. If me will never pay for car map update or use any dedicated sat nav.  Just my thoughts. 👍

Thanks but there's various reasons I want to use the car one rather than my phone

If you haven't already register for a MyToyota account then visit estore. https://www.toyota.co.uk/tme#/my-toyota/eStore Depending on the head unit, car and existing services (likely expired) you can either buy the latest update or a map update subscription. The subscription is the one to get as it's the current map plus any updates during the year. Bizarrely they are both £119 which makes no sense.

Your price and the price at checkout is specific to you, the car, and any existing subscriptions.  But provided you registered your head unit per the instructions it will offer the appropriate download.

I don't know if any way to get it for free as part of the process gives a 16 digit unlock code which needs to be entered. I would guess anything not official may risk bricking the head unit and warranty issues.

Note this won't get you the android auto update if you don't have it - the dealer might be quoting for that firmware and map plus labour.

I renewed mine couple of months back and I still don't use it, did it online not through the dealer, I prefer Waze it gives better warnings for camera's.

I can't remember if it showed on the Hud but it did show in the dash cluster, I'll have a look next time I'm out in the chariot.

Only the car's sat nav will display on the hud. You can either buy a used Tomtom/Garmin which some are suppose gives lifetime map updates - 10-15 years probably. Does you car have AA/ACP? If not then it's a payment for the upgrade (cannot recall how much).

I have both a Tomtom standalone and tom tom app for AA.

I updated my 2019 satnav system just before the free three year deadline. At that time (2022) the cost of the updates were £100.

I have not bothered to update since, the roads don’t change that much and when they do you just follow the signs (like we always did in years gone by).
