PHEV... Final service and MOT... But why dealer why?

Recommended Posts

Every time I go to the dealer I'm left disappointed and frustrated.

Just collected my car from its Y3 service and MOT. It gets swapped in 2 weeks for the GRS version.

I gets in the car and get a warning, the lights are on. They're normally set to Auto. It's been parked from 1250 until 1640 with the frickin lights on. I puts it in drive and sets off, big clunk. The parking brake mode has been changed from being automatically based on drive or park gear selection to manual. Why are my wing mirrors out. Switched from auto to folded out.

Why don't they just put things back to how they were when you left it FFS. And not leave the lights on for 4hrs. It's not hard.

As for the complementary wash and vacuum. No sign whatsoever. The car is still dirty all over and dirty inside. That's the one thing I didn't want them to leave as they found it! 😂

And it stinks of burning oil. Really bad. Have they heard of a funnel? It stops the oil going everywhere when you top the oil up. Simples. Especially with a very thin oil it's essential. I've not dared look under the bonnet yet but it must be bad.

I know it sounds trivial but it is every time I go to the dealer there are shannigans of various degrees. Not doing what it was booked in for then having to take another day out the diary, messing up software updates - downgrading instead of upgrading, making a mess of the back seats which still have permanent deformations in them from the DCDC converter replacement, ... I could go on. It's almost Peugeot dealer level incompetence.

Now it's unlikely the 4 mile drive back from dealers has put enough charge back in the 12V Battery to account for the lights being left on for nearly 4hrs. Such morons I hate them. Too busy at home to faff on a long and wholly avoidable drive or sit in there for an hour with the car in ready mode.

This for me is Toyota's Achilles heel. Their UK dealers.

Ranting aside I did get dropped off by a taxi driver driving a Prius with 236k miles on the clock and still going strong. Toyota make Armageddon proof cars. Shame about their dealerships, they seem to be comprised of post Armageddon humans. Like the folks running around in the original Omega Man movie.

Or maybe I just have a poor one and it's not the norm? 😕

TBH I think both the dealer network and Toyota UK are letting the side down. There are some good dealers but I feel they are fewer than the jobsworth ones.

Mine's not as bad as yours - At least they leave the car on in Ready mode (I can tell from the mpg drop... either that or they're hooning it around the car park   ), albeit the whole time they have it.

So far mine have been fairly solid with the servicing; Filters get changed, oil gets changed. They don't take great care - One time they accidentally dumped the entire contents of the glovebox on the floor - Understandable, as it's a bugger to get out, but no word of apology, didn't even mention or warn about it, left me to find out when I collected the car.

I can see the swirl marks on the instrument cluster where the 'valet' has 'cleaned' them.

I don't feel like the service is great for what I'm paying, but they haven't gotten bad enough that I'd go elsewhere. I don't use them for anything outside of serving though; Been burned too many times on that...

(The exception is windscreen replacement, they did do a good job of that... but that was outsourced to another company and done by 2 guys in a van  )

If it makes you feel any better I serviced one of my cars yesterday and funnel slipped out and a good half pint went all over engine and on newly professionally jet washed drive

I never let them clean it even if its dirty. Filthy rags and tools (sweeping brushes I've seen used in the past!). No idea why they cant just do simple things correctly either, very frustrating....you have to get it serviced and so you put trust in them and its a crap show.

That could be what happened. I'll give them the benefit.

Sorry to hear about your drive. Nightmare cleaning that up. Plenty of sand?

Totally letting the side down. My next dealer is 16 miles away versus just 4 miles so a bit of a trek and an expensive taxi fare. Or I wait and book the whole day off. It hasn't got that bad yet but it's close.

No courtesy cars? I always get one. Time before last it was a Lexus. This week it was a less than clean inside AygoX.

Apparently not with the arrangement we have.

Sorry, I can't remember the name of the stuff, but when the highly skilled motor technician at a supamotasave type fast fit, changed the oil on my old motorhome and cross threaded the sump plug, and it dumped the engine oil all over my concrete drive.

They gave me a mucky bucket full of stuff that looked like cat litter that they used to soak up the oil dumped in the workshop by all the other high quality work they were carrying out.

But it did soak up the oil, and left no stain after a couple of months of weather on it.

Many Many moons ago over the years with different manufacturers I used to get a courtesy car for free when the car was getting serviced. Slowly over time now its become chargeable. First it was £10 but my Toyota dealer wants £25 for the pleasure, I take a 20 minute walk home in the fresh air instead.

… and of course if you manage to reach 80 years old then they will not let you have a courtesy car. I’m not even sure if they allow a test drive - maybe someone will know?

I kind of agree about the dealers, the first one I used to use was on a site far too small, every morning when people were dropping off for service and collecting courtesy cars all the staff, mechanics, sales people were out shuffling cars around to try to get them on, it was bedlam. The next nearest is also too small and messed me about just on getting a test drive so I don't touch them. I now go to a big newer(ish) dealer, its the other side of the next town but at least I can park when I arrive, they missed a wash once but usually give me a courtesy car and servicing has been fine. So I can recommend Bromsgrove Toyota.

Awful to see this mate 😔.

I use Toyota in Helensburgh in Scotland.  Honestly they are fantastic. Every time I've went in, offered a coffee, how's the car, are you still happy etc.

They are 40 minutes from me (2 other dealers were closer).

My MOT and 3rd service is due soon.  Called up to book it in, get the usual free courtesy car they offer me this time "want us to come and get it and bring it back to you.. its £7.50 each way".  Sold. Take my cash.

Shame the service is night and day across dealers. I can tell you though I one reported another dealer before I signed up to this ones service plan etc.  Toyota ended up cancelling their franchise... not saying it was just due to my issue but they do act.
