Hi

Is anyone able to tell me if there is a way to fix the thread that has been cross threaded in the engine body?

It happened whilst trying to tighten the nut on the coil pack.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, you can fit a helicoil for that. Involves drilling out the hole slightly bigger, tapping it with an oversize tap and then fitting an insert to restore the original size thread. Best to let a garage do it if you haven't used one before.

I fix threads in aluminium like this all the time at work using wire thread inserts AKA Helicoils . Can be done at home with a kit something like this.

It depends on the damage sometimes you can save the day using a bolt with two sides slightly ground down then run a nut down bolt and try it in the casting. If you're lucky it will only be the first thread or two that's slightly damaged if compleatly stripped then Helicoils but this is a very difficult job to start so practice first on aluminium at hand try using a block of hard wood with a hole drilled into it.

It's still more difficult on aluminium than wood but it gives you an idea of what it's like to do.

Looks like the thread is stripped to the full depth of the hole. For a one off job this is the cheap option. Just make sure you get the correct thread size!

Or local garage or Yourself if you're handy enough may be able to take it up one size IE M6 to M8 (the hole in the coil pack may require a fettle as well due to dia increase)
