Techstream 18 Question for anyone who has it

Sorry to start this RSA thingy again, but genuine question.

If anyone has Techstream and the options are NOT there to make speed warning sticky-off like they used to be before the EU regs came in, what software are dealers using to configure this?

Dealers had cars on their forecourts before the EU regs (which UK followed but no legal reason to) and speed warnings were optional. After (a date) the warnings are mandatory, so the dealer has to have "thrown a switch"

Thanks in advance for any advice (anonymous or otherwise 😎)

Using a Mini VCI ? -  it only supports can bus, so doesn't read the other buses, so no detection of those devices there are various workarounds and VCI options - the dealers have now moved over to GTS Plus

I think ( I maybe wrong) that the mandatory RSA speed alert has always been activated on the 2024 update versions. So the dealers haven’t flipped any switches. The cars with the optional alerts were the up to 2023 models. When I test drove the new car in May it had the new sounding alert on it (it sounds different to previous car) admittedly I didn’t try turning it off but I’m sure the dealer would have deactivated it if it was possible.

I had a long chat with the tech guy at the dealer and he said he would be happy to revert the RSA to "pre" turned on permanently.

We connected his laptop and went through all of the options - it was the latest software issued in April and there were no options available ref RSA.

He is really annoyed as he is getting a CH-R next month and doesn't want the "bongs" either - so he said he will investigate and get back to me.

Having driven the car home today, the "bongs" are not too intrusive but the flashing speed sign is more annoying that the old system where it just turned red.

If I hear anything more, I'll report back.

I have Techstream 18.0.0.3 and I have searched hi and lo in all the ECUs and cannot find any way of making the default setting for RSA visual only...

We have a 2024 Yaris Cross, I don't like the way it brakes for you, it is quite unsettling tbh, I was always taught that you have to be in control of the vehicle at all times, you are not with this thing. Last week, it was inviting me via the steering wheel to pull back over into my lane while overtaking a parked car. It has even done an emergency stop on our own drive.
Luckily, it is my wifes car but I despise driving it. I passed my test in December 1980, I don't need Artificial Intelligence telling me how to drive safely. I have my own algorithm, it is called experience.

Techstream 18 will now only cover cars pre-April 2024 according to the tech as it was replaced by Toyota new GTS configuration software.  Some functionality may still work, I'm told.

Sadly there is no way (currently) to ensure that any given car is being driven by someone who is competent and experienced, though 99% will claim they are. So the legislation goes in the direction of mitigating their stupidity.

It's also a way to test and implement 'features' leading to fully autonomous vehicles. (As someone who passed my test a decade before you and is feeling less and less comfortable driving, I wish they were here now. (Though the bus pass is a good substitute at times.))

Have a look for proactive driving assist (PDA) in the settings - our Yaris Premiere (non cross) has that setting. It also allows adjusting using the button with the horizontal bars used for adjusting the cruise control distance. Once you get used to it, it's easy enough to work with - keeping accelerator pressed slightly over rides but it's unnatural at first. I believe this is more like regen braking on some other hybrids (IIRC it was the BMW). The accelerator behaves more as a speed control than a power control.

I accidently altered the PDA settings while playing about with the menu I agree that it is very unnerving havin the car brake or slow down on a two lane road passing parked cars with cars coming toward you with plenty of room to pass each other. All back to minimum sensitivity now a lot better.

I would guess that Toyota's new official diagnostic software just won't allow a technician to change certain mandatory required vehicle settings for safety systems.

We get the same with the Toyota forklifts, certain safety systems legally required for UK / EU & we cannot alter the settings as the diagnostic software just won't allow us.

Any factory set parameters we do change it stores time, date & which device ID made the change so the tinkering is traceable.

Techstream has been really called GTS since version 16 so there is no change in that regard...

Jeff, is the above you mention pre-april 24 referring to the production date?  Thanks,  Dan
