Hello,

I am trying to figure out what years Toyota started using ECVT technology in Carolla and Camry for the Canadian market? I know there are differences between the timing of this based on trim levels. Is there a list for this? Car buying sites do not seem to know the difference between automatic, CVT and ECVT.. THANKS

Hi Nick, This information is available online, Toyota made a notable shift in its vehicle technology by introducing ECVT (Electronically Controlled Continuously Variable Transmission) in their hybrid models. For those in the Canadian market, this change started with the Toyota Camry Hybrid in 2007. The ECVT in the Camry Hybrid helped blend power from both the gasoline engine and the electric motor, aiming for better fuel efficiency and lower emissions. As for the Toyota Corolla, the shift to CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) happened with the 2014 model year. This change improved the Corolla’s performance and fuel economy, but it’s important to note that this CVT is different from the ECVT found in hybrid models. While CVTs in regular Corollas focus on smoother driving and better fuel efficiency, the ECVT is tailored specifically for hybrids to manage the power from both the engine and electric motor.Understanding these differences is key when choosing between models. ECVT is unique to hybrids, offering a different experience compared to the standard CVTs in non-hybrid vehicles. This distinction affects how each car drives and performs, making it an important consideration for prospective buyers.👍
