Rather than use a Battery charger, I've started to keep the 12v Battery charged by leaving the car in park. I do it with the car in the garage with the door raised slightly to vent the exhaust gases. I turn off the aircon but as the garage is dark, the headlights come on, even if I turn on the lights. Where is the sensor that turns on the lights? If I know where it is, I can then illuminate it. Thanks in advance.

dashboard I think

Can you set to sidelights only? At least headlights won't be on but tail lights will be. DRLs should stay off until drive is selected.

It will be at the front, either behind the rear view mirror or somewhere along the dashboard where it meets with the bottom of the windscreen. Might be easier to just put it on sidelights as already suggested - it wouldn't slow down the charging process by very much at all.

If the car is garaged and evidently has electrics (hence the light), would it not be a better strategy to install a connector and leave it hooked up to a Battery charger? Petrol is expensive. Entirely up to you, just a suggestion.

Light sensor is in the dashboard near the bottom of windscreen.
When doing ready mode in dark places just switch to parking lights first click on rotary light switch and you will be alright. All exterior lights on Corolla are led and so they do not consume much energy. Plus as far as I remember someone mentioned that when using headlights actually the Battery gets better charge, when all consumers are off the inverter sends less voltage.
In my old Auris it’s always 14.3-14.6v
